I have driven in both places and the drive from Cary to Nashville is much easier (and less stressful). If you use Google maps and check the range of times to make the trip, depending on time of departure, you see the difference.

Cary, NC to Storrs, CT: 9 hr 40 min to 13 hours 30 min.
Cary, NC to Nashville, TN: 7 hr 30 min to 9 hours 40 minutes.
