In meeting with reporters today, Randy Edsall said team is nowhere near needed on speed/strength front. One example: 23 UConn players benched 350-plus in spring 2010; 10 benched 350-plus spring 2017.

Wow. Didn't think Chris Britton, and Brayden Brown would be leaving. The rest are no surprise.

This gives us a little space for transfers, particularly 5th year transfers which don't count against the 25 man annual cap.

I'm curious about why for Britton and Brown. The others I can figure out.

They had him listed as a RS Senior on the website last year. But looks like walked on in 14 and has never played.

Holey moley. Do you expect a lot of folks to leave after the first year of a new coach and seeing how they fit on the depth chart? Absolutely. Do you expect two of them to be predicted starters as 5th year seniors (Lawley and Britton)? Heck no. Don't get me wrong -- neither of them are good enough to get us where we want to go, but both of them may have started spring camp better than anyone else we had. Not happy to see Brown leave either -- you certainly had to figure he was in the mix to compete to start -- but freshman deciding it's not for them after 1 year happens.

The only reason I know that is I actually know him lol

So from a scholarship perspective - this frees up 8: 3 of which we already knew about.
1.Brayden Brown,
2. John Robinson,
3 Aaron Garland,
4 Bryan Coney,
5 Ja'Kevious Vickers,
6 Nick Zecchino.
7 Sheridan Lawley
8 Chris Britoon
I always had Rishell and Westmark as already exiting.

And by getting to 8, it gives the staff room to offer Donaldson and Keating a scholarship now rather than in the spring and take on one 5th year transfer. No idea if that is part of the thinking.

The coaching staff is going to have to put as much time into 5th year grad transfers as it will into freshman between now and the February signing date. Where does one place a want ad for "5th Year DL and Linebackers wanted - immediate starting slots available?" They should be calling every P5 coach they have a good relationship with asking if there are any graduating seniors who might be looking for more playing time than they'll get at their current school. Maybe they'll get lucky and find one or two that didn't develop but might in a different environment.

This one shocks me. Britton less so. Britton got a lot of reps, made a few standout plays but overall got lost in the wash a lot.

Wanted Brown at RB to be honest.
