Yeah you completely made up #5. Well done.

That posters finally realize what they are looking at does not put them at fault for the 'negative atmosphere'. The blame lies with the administration who is seemingly looking to murder the football program.

yeah I saw literally nothing that suggested that. Like other teams don't have message boards? All message boards are pretty bad in that regard.

He misunderstood what that kid's father posted.

I don't remember exactly what he posted but he was saying he agreed with us about the tire fire - not that the board influenced his opinion.

But yeah compared to other schools - this is a pillow fight. So if this is upsetting you might need to consider the NEC or NESCAC.

Now we know why they offered Octavian Williams

Not sure Williams got an UConn offer yet... just Tennessee Tech & Jackson State so far that I can tell. Big body for sure though.

Why does it seem like we've regressed a bit in recruiting? It seems like the majority of the recent recruits we've been linked to are getting primarily recruited by FCS schools.

Recruits/Targets or Commits? Two different things as you know.

Yeah you completely made up #5. Well done.

No way!!???

5 The constant negativity on the Boneyard scared him off

#5 falls directly on the shoulders of the continuous naysayers on this Boneyard. I hope those here will take responsibility for their negative atmosphere they create and perpetuate does not have any further affects on recruits
Prove it and SuperJohn will pay you $5000.

If he was 'scared off' I think thats best for all - we dont need scaredy cats...we need dawgs.

Hopefully more kids are visiting this weekend. I see Painter is now following Gerrik Vollmer (6'5 275lb lineman from CT) who is currently committed to Louisville.. Hopefully he's visiting along with Tunstall this weekend.

I get that he plays at Taft but from CT' is a bit of a stretch....

I hope we swing him our way -

I really like this Hobbs kid. Has explosiveness, good ability to change directions for his height. Long legs, but not slow legs. Probably has more growing to do. I really want to see what he could do at DE. But also his ability to have a acceleration burst could be useful as a TE to blow past LBs. Because he didnt look strong at Oline blocking, I would start him at DE. This could be the Saulin replacement we need.

I hope we can get an undersized NON "prototypical" RKG type with tons of speed ( a la Trevardo Williams ) that come come off the edge and disrupt a backfield a little more often.Time for us to sprinkle in some football players and less prototypes....

Agreed. Speed is much more valuable than size. Hobbs has speed though.

Chicagoland 3* DE Josh Maize has a Top 3 of#UConn#CMU and #Toledo, but #Cuse and others are watching him this fall

JH is the Rvals Midwest guy. Cherry picking the article:

>>“I like UConn’s Coach (Bob) Diaco. He’s a great defensive coach and he wants to use me in a lot of interesting ways.<<

>>“I have definitely talked with UConn about getting out there and taking an official visit,” Maize said. “Most of my offers are in the Midwest, so I have already been to those schools. UConn is the only school right now I have decided to definitely take an official visit to. “I’m good friends with Ian Swenson, who plays at Loyola and is committed to UConn. We know it is going to be in December and once the season ends we’ll pick that date which works for both of us.”<<

... but he is clearly open to other options: Cincy, PSU, Illinois, Iowa State and Cuse like his film and he will look @ other official visit options based on that.

Official visit to UConn this weekend

>>Deerfield (Ill.) senior three star ranked defensive end recruit Josh Maize (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) will make his first official visit this weekend to UConn. Maize resets his visit plans and more in this latest recruiting story.<<

>>Maize gave us a preview of what he's looking forward to this weekend on his official visit to UConn. "I'm just looking forward to seeing the campus and the surrounding area. I've never been out East before so I want to see what UConn has to offer. I'm also looking forward to getting to know the coaches and the guys on the team. UConn also is supposed to have great facilities and I'm excited to see the different facilities along with the overall environment at UConn."<<

Shaping up to me a big weekend.

I follow the Boneyard off and on. Recently there has been a recruit who decommitted from Uconn to go to Temple. Between what his release on why he went to Temple and the father's letter there are some things to conclude.
1 He really wanted to go to Temple
2 After his commitment Uconn Staff did no followup
3 When attempting to contact Uconn staff he was ignored.
4 The concern if the coaching staff would be here next year
5 The constant negativity on the Boneyard scared him off

#5 falls directly on the shoulders of the continuous naysayers on this Boneyard. I hope those here will take responsibility for their negative atmosphere they create and perpetuate does not have any further affects on recruits

I hope this young man wasn't attached to the coaching at all and it really is about Temple.

Rhule hired at Baylor today.

I wonder if there will be any recruiting fallout from the Rhule-Baylor news. I'd love for us to get in contact with some of these guys, we were in on a decent amount of them before they committed to Temple (at least offered/recruited for a period of time).

On a side note somewhat related to the above- feels to me like we don't do a good enough job of maintaining even just somewhat regular contact/relationships with kids after they commit to other schools. As someone that likes to follow recruiting nationally and not just who UConn is interested in, you see this happening fairly frequently throughout the rest of the country. Maintaining contact with a kid throughout the entirety of the process is crucial for us, especially in the G5 when stuff like Rhule leaving abruptly happens almost every offseason.

When Herman went from UH to UT, you instantly saw Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, and others reaching out to prospects and continuing dialogue with them. I hope we do that here as most of these kids are close enough to us proximity wise to be able to visit quickly.

Speed, speed, speed. Our D has looked woefully slow of late. I don't mind massive DTs, and even sizeable DEs, but if the DE are oversized the LBs need to be able to fly.

Really hoping that Rhule departure might open up a couple of kids.

Regarding DTs, have we recruited many besides Murphy and Blackwell (now gone) in the past few years? Hobbs and Maize look like DE...both of which could also flirt with the TE position.

While I am excited about Hobbs and Maize, I'm very disappointed by the recruiting at the Oline position. I wish we would recruit like Navy, fit fast Oline of medium build rather than giants who can pummel little men, but dont have the speed to pick up speedier Dline players.

Pioneer Press All-Area Football First Team Defense and Special Teams

Joshua Maize - DE/LB, Deerfield, Sr.
Key stats: 96 tackles, 8 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, fumble recovery.
College: Undecided
Pivotal point: After playing two years at Notre Dame, Maize transferred to Deerfield. He had never played linebacker, but Deerfield coach Steve Winiecki suggested the move would show off his speed and athleticism. He played linebacker and defensive end this season. "I credit that switch for making me the player and person I am today," Maize said. "I wouldn't be in this situation without that move."
Opposing player I most respect: Maine South offensive lineman Kevin Jarvis. "The kid is an animal."
Fun fact: He's an avid gamer. "Anything sports, but I definitely like 2K Madden. I can play all day, especially on Sundays."

2017 Commit Ian Swenson also made the team.
