Lexie Brown??-Consecutive FF appearances, Achieved AA status, poised to be the face of MD basketball for the next two years leaves for Duke who has not been to FF under the current coach. I still think there is more to the Harper story at UK. Reimer left ND team however briefly but long enough to cost ND a loss to Miami. We had a whole thread on the reasons why so many transfers for this 2013 class, maybe we should ressurect it.
I said it's rare, not unheard of. Lexie Brown was 15 per HG (not sure where she was per other sources), but that's close to what Banks was ranked. But you are right - Deshields and Kaela Davis would be great examples of top 5 kids who left programs along with Jones (and Harper in your example). I was referring to really true top kids in a class - top 5 for the most part. And if a kid is a chemistry problem, it will be better for the program she's leaving once she's gone. And there have been several recently...
My point is, people keep mentioning how Kim has so many quality kids and how it's going to be hard to keep them all happy. Bottom line is she doesn't have to keep them all happy. I have no idea what she says to recruits, but if it's along the lines of "come to Baylor, be part of a great program and team, help us win NC's, and earn your PT on the team", then how is that a bad thing? Mompremier, Brown and Cox? If 2 are starters and one comes off the bench and earns PT like Stokes did, how is that a bad thing?
Maybe Mulkey preaches the team concept like Geno does. Plus, Mompremier and Brown are a year older than Cox. Honestly, I wish UCONN had that problem. I wish Geno had gone harder after CT star Bria Holmes. I wish he had more post players even tho we have Butler on board for the next 3 years. I wish we had more depth in the post once Stewie leaves.
But it's generally not how Geno runs the program - he's rarely had 14 or 15 schollies all used up. Look at the # of HS AA's on any UCONN team - this year we have 8. Stewie, Jefferson, Tuck, Chong (she played in one of the all star game so I assume she was an AA), Williams I think (Nurse should have been), Collier, Boykin and Samuelson. That's more than almost any other team in WCBB.
The thing is, though, that we only have 11 players on the roster (not withstanding the great teammates Polly and Tierney). When you consider that Nurse should have been a HS AA, that means 9 out of the 11 players on our roster were HS AA's (or should have been if Williams wasn't). Only Ekmark and Butler weren't HS AA's. So how does Geno "keep everyone happy" when he almost has 2 entire teams of HS AA's?
