Some thoughts:
  • Ryan Boatright was great from 3 this year. Career 36% shooting from 3 heading into the season (113/315) and ended up shooting 41% for the year (86/209).
  • Amida Brimah's best season. Won conference defensive player of the year and looking back, he surprised me offensively. Had quite a few jumpshots and his form looked pretty decent. Don't recall seeing that jumpshot much more in his junior and senior years.
  • Rodney Purvis loved playing SMU at the XL center (Scored 28 on them during regular season and 29 during conference championship game). He was to them that season what Martins Igbanu was to UConn this year.
  • Daniel Hamilton man - what could have been. Had a 25 point, 13 rebound, 7 assist performance as a freshman on the road against Memphis. Just so much talent but I feel like he never reached his full potential here.
  • Omar Calhoun - another what-if given his injury history. Had some decent games throughout the season and the out of nowhere dunk against UCF.

this was an important team for me, personally, because i drifted away from following ncaa basketball for a few years before the 2014 championship run. i was all-in on the '15 team and on every team since then (2015 was the year that i joined the boneyard, for instance.)

looking back on it, i always wonder how deandre daniels returning for a senior season would have affected things... it's crazy that we were starting a front court of brimah and facey most games.

We're a Daniels senior year in 2014-2015 and a Hamilton junior year in 2016-2017 from KO still being our coach imo. 14/15 was definitely a tournament team with Daniels, could have been Sweet 16 good even.
