Personally I think we already have 2 top notch recruits in Facey & Samuel. If we add Jordan Bell(who is practically begging to come) it's a really good group. They aren't the glamour E#*N top 20 guys but Facey & Bell are both ranked in the 60's on a recruit site and Samuel is 112. If we add 1 consesus top 25 guy then it's a great class.

I really don't like these 1 and done guys for the most part at UConn....sure if Drummond had been a total stud last year and delivered a Final 4 I would feel different....but in retrospect I think it was more disruptive. The UConn formula of finding gems in the 60-100+ rankings that stick around for 3 years worked wonders for Calhoun....I hope it continues with Ollie. That being said if Jabari Parker wants to come I ain't saying no.

Name one guy ranked outside the top 60 who ever became a real contributor here?

No, go down the list, we've done this before. Guys outside the top 60-100 aren't successful here or haven't been. Start naming names.

And I don't mean a role player here or there, a consistent contributor.

You're joking right?

Try Okafor, Jake, Travis, Boone, Thabeet, for that matter, Olander...

You can start with the guy who just got selected in the lottery in this year's draft, Jeremy Lamb. Emeka had a decent career here as well.

How about we just start with the lottery picks?
1) Emeka Okafor
2) Jeremy Lamb
3) Hilton Armstrong
4) Thabeet

And for good measure, how about the guys currently on the team? Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright aren't too bad, right?

RSCI:
  • 2010: Napier #75, Lamb #78
  • 2009: None 60-100, though Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was #50
  • 2008: Majok #74, Miles #91
  • 2007: none in top 100
  • 2006: Thabeet #64
  • 2005: Adrien #53 (OK not 60+ but close)
  • 2004: None 60-100
  • 2003: Boone #95
  • 2002: None 60-100
  • 2001: Okafor #99
  • 2000: None 60-100
  • 1999: Wrenn #67
  • 1998: Deng #85

Those underlined were drafted, those bolded played in a final four and/or won a NC.

I would say that as long as the player isn't a head case (Wrenn/Miles) or doesn't quit (Deng/Majok) then they have a good chance of being a good player for UConn. In defense of UConn recruiting, Wrenn and Miles were extremely talented/athletic. Majok was drafted in the second round after playing one year at UConn and one year in Australia, he was talented/athletic. Deng was a disappointment but he could have been decent if he had worked harder and listened.

I'm not getting into players 100+ because I don't have that much time on my hands. This is what I could pull in 10 minutes. :p

BTW, I feel you must have made a mistake here, unless you want people to start listing Rudy Gay, AJ Price, Kemba Walker, etc. because 1-59 is outside 60-100. Just saying.

Then abandoned ship when he realized how wrong he was, the least he could do is own up to it.

Your kidding right. I thought taking fringe players and making them stars was what this program has been about.
