2012 Roster -- Quarterbacks

Thought I'd look at some TD vs. Int. for Uconn vs. opponents for a few years. Showing Uconn td's passing and interceptions and then opponents td's and intereceptions. Kind of gives an idea of where Uconn has been and also how opponents have done (kind of how does a BCS schedule of teams do)

2011 14-9; 22-18 So Uconn threw 14 td's and gave up 9 ints, while allowing 22 td's and getting 18 ints.
2010 10-9; 16-20
2009 16-13; 17-12
2008 5-17; 9-18 Tyler senior year and hurt some
2007 couldn't download info
2006 14-12; 14-12 Dones and DJ
2005 14-10; 10-14 Bones and DJ
2004 23-15; 14-10 Orl. year
2003 33-14; 17-9 Orl. junior

Uconn has pretty much had low double digit interceptions most years with 2008 having its own history. Note Orlovsky senior year had 15. So it seems that a mostly run 1st attack (post O) got about 12 interceptions a year with about 12 tds. O was about 2/1 his last two years.
Anyway, if DO is the guidepoint for good QB play and TD's/Int - Charles Whitmer doesn't need to be Luck or Griffin to be outstanding by Uconn history. Just throw twice as many td's as int. and you will have the best Uconn passing year since the big O (and better than his senior year). Having 14 to 15 int. for a future NFL QB seems about what Uconn's best has shown and fans were pretty pleased with him.

The most important thing I'm looking for from Charlie Whitman in two weeks is that the guy takes the offense over the goal line. Many times. Maybe then, the sticker can come off the front off the helmet.
I actually had to go to the roster to find the "sir" name. I guess I'm easy to confuse.

Carlton Whitmer has a real chance to be the best QB we've had since Orlovsky, by the way.

p.s., you gotta love the Boneyard and how we support each other through our mistakes ;)

If Conrad Whitmeyer can duplicate the 2004 stats I'll do cartwheels. He's going to throw some picks -- he's young and seems to be prone to a poor choice or two. But if he's still completing 60% and throwing TD's, I'll take the trade-off.

As long as Crispin/Chester/Cody Whitmer doesn't turn into Chandelier Whitmer, we should be fine at QB.

40 yard runs from McCummings are going to happen, the kid is going to be a big problem for opponents defenses, especially after Chuck Witmer gets done with them.

Between Chandler McCummings and Scott Whitmer, defenses won't know what's coming at them.

The funny thing is that BizLaw might have made an honest mistake, but after this thread, I'm not sure I know the kid's name anymore....GO CARLOS WHATMAN!!!

Love the direction this thread has taken. Chase Whitmer would too if he was reading it...

And somewhere out there, there is a Carlos Whatman that just Googled his own name and said, "WTF??"

Cleetus Wyndmere for Heisman 2012!

(eh... couldn't resist. It's probably run it's course)

I think that the addition of Shane Day is the X factor this year, a true qb position coach with NFL experience to guide these young men will be the big difference between this year and last year.

I never noticed a problem with Mac's footwork, I'm hoping that Whitmer goes through his progression's without forcing the ball too much, he seems like he might be a river boat gambler, but we'll see soon enough, very happy that Griffin is a senior right now.

CW gets his name back when he leads us to victory over NC State. Until then he is just Canton Springame.

Chandler Endres made a couple of throws in the spring game that we haven't seen since dano. I can live with a few picks if we have a legit passing game.

Wow. All I have to do in order to get people to participate in these discussions is type one late at night, when stressed, and make a mistake. Who knew!

Glad that you're being a good sport, patentlawyer. We all appreciate your reviews.

Tough crowd Biz......

OL next?

I think Biz should get the OL next too, since it is probably the most crucial unit for this year's success. It all starts with Jimmy Barnett's health...

I've heard that Whitmer looks WAY better than he did in the spring and it wasn't even close between him and MN.

God bless America and UConn football.

Lets hope by the end of the season we will be calling our QB Dan Or'whitmer or Cam Whitmer.

I don't care what name he's called, or how many picks or td's he throws. All that matters is the W! His last names first initial is a good start though.

im going to mess everyone up and call him

cole wagner

enjoy

Wait a minute.....wait a minute.....has anyone ever seen the two of those guys on the field at the same time?? That's what I thought!! (queue Conspiracy Kitty)

As with every season I am entering this one with optimism. Competent QB play (and a healthy offensive line) should be sufficient for us to be far more competitive than any publication is giving us credit for.

That said, on the comment with numbers, I personally concern myself more with the eye test than what ends up on the stat sheet. I still view the best game any QB had for us post Dano was Lorenzen against UVA in 2008 (and I was stunned to see how pedestrian his stats looked in the paper the following day). Give me efficiency like that on offense and I will be thrilled, even if we never crack the top twenty in passing yards (I know, TDH views this viewpoint as sacrilege).

Can Slim Whitman do this for us? If he can keep his int's under control, I believe he can. Resisting the impulse to force the ball into a small window (which may not really be there) however is easier said than done for many kids with confidence in their arms. I can think of a few in the NFL who have yet to master this.
