Sigh...that 1997 team was so good. Just didn't seal the deal against Tennessee in the Elite 8 round. Whether it was the loss itself of Shea that made the difference or the excessive focus on Shea not being able to play, it cost UConn a title they probably should have won.

Ms Ralph's injury was the first major injury experienced by the program and dealing with it was entirely new and different. My feeling is that it was definitely a combination of both the loss and the focus, but that team was good enough to win it all even without Shea. Coach Auriemma has beaten himself up over how he handled it, but sometimes these things happen.
