Memphis Returns to FedExPark to Host No. 19 UConn

FedEx Park - Natural Grass w/ 2k capacity

Left Field – 318 feet
Left Center Field – 360 feet
Center Field – 380 feet
Right Center Field – 360 feet
Right Field – 317 feet

Heading into the weekend:

UConn RPI = 12 (leads AAC)
Memphis RPI = 190

I like that we are having Kersten a weekend starter for this series. Hopefully Cate is back next weekend!

Need to be careful with Cate; he has a lot at stake. Talked to a couple scouts I know from my old coaching days when at DD Park last Friday night; tightness in the forearm is a touchy thing; forearm gets tight to protect something else. . I'm sure Jim P will take care of him & not put him at risk. We sure could use him

Looks like I'll be buying the $9.95 Memphis monthly pass. Hoping for 3 non-angina inducing wins.

Interesting that Jeff Kersten goes on Saturday ahead of Gardner. Personally, I like the idea of separating the two lefty starters with a righty in between.

Also, UConn has two midweek games next week. We'll see how long Kersten goes on Saturday, as he might be called upon to also start the Wednesday game, with Colby Dunlop starting on Tuesday.

Chris Jones says one game suspension for Feldstein for a violation of team rules. Phillips making progress on the sprained wrist, but isn't ready to get back in the lineup yet.

Top 1st, 1-0 UConn lead with no outs as the first three batters get on base.

Memphis commentators very complimentary of the UCONN Baseball program.

UConn's offense does not generate a ton of walks, but they do not seem to be awful in that stat, either. It may be a limited number of at bats, but Anthony Nucerino does get a large number of walks. Top 2nd inning, he picks up his 11th walk of the season. When compared to his 38 official at bats (which don't include any walks in that total), that is quite a large number.

Oh wait, that play never works except against us. Unreal.

IMO our offense is good enough to a point that we don't have to risk that vs. Memphis.

Would not be surprised if 3 is enough tonight.

Bottom 3rd, Feole gives up a 2 out walk but otherwise retires the side. 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 hit for Feole so far. UConn up 3-0.

I agree 100% which is why it drives me nuts. There are times when you just don't need to be so aggressive. Don't give them outs when they are struggling to get them.

Yup. Same thing we talked about last weekend. Gotta play smarter in the Regional.

Feole's gotten better in that regard ever since he became the Friday night starter when Cate got hurt.

Absolutely. Even when Cate comes back, I hope Feole remains our Friday guy.
