This absolutely would NEVER happen like this, so no need to tell me that.
Just for fun, one way to do a 16-team playoff
  • 10 conference champs + 6 at-large
  • First two rounds at campus sites
  • Bc of campus settings, attempt will be made to keep opponents close to home to cut down on team/fan travel and create a better environment (as is done in most other NCAA sports)
  • As a result of above item, only top 4 teams will be seeded
  • Goal will still be to create roughly even brackets
  • Regular season rematches cannot happen in 1st round
  • Teams that played twice cant meet until semi-finals at earliest
This week (* = conf champ, underline = at-large):

San Diego St* @ Oregon* // Coastal* @ #1 Georgia*
Wake Forest* @ Ohio St* // No Illinois* @ #4 Cincinnati*
Iowa @ Michigan // UTSA* @ #2 Oklahoma*
OklaSt @ PennSt // MichSt @ #3 Alabama

  • 6 of 8 first round games are regional/within 500 miles
  • clogged up with B10 at-larges right now until they beat each other up
  • rankings are my own, based on what I think committee will do

.-.
ask & ye shall receive ....

ODU @ UMass // Duke* @ 1 UConn
Akron* @ ArkSt* // Vandy* @ 4 So Miss

Kansas* @ UNT // USF* @ 3 FIU*
UNLV* @ Arizona* // Illinois* @ 2 NMSU

  • C-USA shows its power by getting 3 at-larges and 2 seeds
  • The other 3 at-large spots go to independents

+ Any school with FBS wins hurt their chances tremendously, or got in with a worse seed.

+ Arizona set itself apart as the only P5 team to garner a home game, setting up a winless showdown with UNLV, in a game that could've really been a semifinal or final.

11 of the 16 have no FBS wins.

Field: 8-82 against FBS (9%) / 11-4 against FCS (73%)

UMass's loss to URI launches them to #2, forcing them out of UConn's bracket. That tasty rematch between two true heavyweights will now have to wait for the final.

Vandy* @ ArkSt* // Indiana* @ #1 UConn
Arizona* @ Kansas* // UNLV* @ #4 NMSU

Tulane* @ SoMiss // BGSU* @ #2 UMass

GaSthern @ Akron // Duke* @ #3 FIU*

Key games:
Rutgers @ Indiana could determine the BiG East
GaSthern @ TexasSt in a match of two teams on the bubble -- one just in, one just out currently

So the losers advance, I assume? i.e. the teams are playing to win so that they can end their miserable seasons? Kind of cruel, but I love it.
