Every time I watch Iowa I think of how much better Ono could be offensively if she would set up as close to the basket as Czinano does. She does not make a lot of moves and very seldom has to dribble more than once, just turn and shoot. There is very little chance to make mistakes or other players to stop her from what she is attempting to do. Czinano's points per game have increased every season.
Czinano -- and Morgan Johnson & Megan Gustafson before her -- all get that coaching from Jen Jensen, right?
Still, you don't have to be a back to the basket player to get the ball close to the hoop. Mackenzie Holmes of Indiana is constantly moving (spinning/pivoting, you name it) to free herself for passes that leave her unimpeded to the hoop.
ND's Bri Turner was always moving around in the paint to get alley-oops or the ball in position so she could hit those baby hooks. Lindsey Allen and Marina Mabrey used to work with her all the time to send those passes in low.
Sure Muhl and Paige could manage to get her the ball where and when it could be very efffective.
Not for an elite shooter like Clark.
