10 members of NC State’s 1983 national champions sue NCAA over name, image and likeness compensation
The players filed suit in Wake County Superior Court, requesting a jury trial and “reasonable compensation.”
Don’t know if it’s crappy writing but defendants appear to be NCAA and coconspirators which I imagine would include TV. This will be interesting settlement negotiations. As a long time fan, I don't recall ever hearing that NC State team referred to as the "Cardiac Pack". I don't think they have a case up to the date of NIL, but interesting whether they are entitled to anything from current replays or whether their original 'terms of service' preclude that. Determining what they would be entitled to would be real speculative. Wouldn't it be the TV stations etc that actually would 'own' the 'film' with some type of agreement with ncaa to use it?
I could see Phi Slama Jama but it seems to me as if the majority of the Fab Five were very successful in the NBA. Ray Jackson never made it so perhaps he has a case and Jimmy King had a very short NBA career. If the "Cardiac Pack" wins, you figure Phi Slama Jama, Fab Five, etc can't be far behind.
