Here's a (medium sized) cheer for Mercedes Russell.
Only 25, she seemed like such a doofus in her UTenn days;
Another product of the god-awful coaching she was subjected to there.
And here she is with two championships under her belt
and really participates; a big body on D...gave Asia trouble all night...
Becoming quite caney and elusive on pick and rolls.
An effective role-player. Real useful to have around.
Actually, pretty smart. And her joy in winning was fun to see.
Good on you, Mercedes!

I read something a while back that I think is still true. The most decorated USA Basketball player in FIBA history, male or female, is Sue Bird. The player who lags behind her but is slightly ahead of her at a comparable age is Breanna Stewart.

And Seattle's 3rd UConn player actually got into the game! Good to see Tuck actually on the floor.

Not sure if the Storm can win in 2021

Guessing the Lynx might have a shot in an odd year.

So with Sue and Stewie rocking the power pony tails, why is the bun still so much more popular?

It's my biggest take away from the entire series. Who knows how good she would be now if she went anywhere(besides Duke-sorry @CamrnCrz1974 ). Could you imagine what Kim, Geno, Tara, or Muffett could have done for her? She is a very, very good player.

I agree. With those coaches I believe Russell would be outstanding by now. Also, I believe Stewart and Bird will win another championship if Bird does not retire after this season, but it would have to be next season.

While I agree and hope it will happen, the Aces will be even better next year with the return of their missing players. They might well be "a sure bet!"

I think the best teams next year, assuming good health and no major roster changes:

1. Seattle
2. Vegas
3. Washington
4. Minnesota
5. Connecticut

With 6 combined championships in college (4) and WNBA (2), Stewie is now tied with Maya (2;4), Diana (3;3), and Sue (2;4). Couldn't find anyone else with more. Cynthia Cooper also has 6 (2;4). But Stewie is the only one with 6 finals MVPs. And has done in the shortest time. GOAT (IMO)!

Not me. Once you're on the team, you're almost assured a gold medal. You can't point to any USA gold medal team and say "If this or that player didn't play, they would not have won anyway." Take, for example, Diana Taurasi off of any of her Olympic teams, and they would still have won without her.
