Well..... The starters for the Gamecocks only played 25 minutes each in an easy win, and I guess that was what Coach Staley was hoping for, with Connecticut next on the schedule. But what I'm quite sure Staley was NOT looking for, was the pretty sloppy play from both the starters and then especially the reserves when they came in, for the 2nd half. This was led by Laeticia Amihere, who did lead the team with 9 rebounds, but seemed to have left her hands back home in Columbia: she was 2-9 from the field, 2-6 at the line, with 3 fouls - I think all were offensive fouls - and led the team with 5 turnovers in 22 minutes. As a result, the Auburn Tigers out-scored the Gamecocks 19-12 in the 4th Qtr., and 15-2 in the final 6:27 of the game. Still the Gamecocks escape with a 77-58 win. Zia Cooke led the Gamecocks with her 17 1st-half pts, Boston scored 14 pts with 8 boards, Victaria Saxton added 11 pts, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Lele Grissett chipped in 10 pts and 4 rebounds. Destanni Henderson only scored 4 pts on 4 FG attempts, but led the team with 9 assists. Auburn was led by Honesty Scott-Grayson with 15 pts and 4 rebounds. Leading Tiger scorer Unique Thompson added 10 pts on 4-13 shooting, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Thompson stayed in late in the game against the Gamecock reserves, scoring 7 pts on 3-3 FGs - all 7 pts scored in the final half of the 4th Quarter.
