#1 recruit from 2025 going to.....

Fantastic. With her emphasis on NIL, she wasn’t going to Columbia, so I was definitely hoping for Oklahoma over the other contenders. Ummmm… because I’m a big appreciator of the Sooner program… yeah. That’s it.

I don't get it but I guess OU had the NIL money, and high-octane offense and meh defense are important to her.
Us Husky fans now have a front row seat to evaluate OU for next year.:)

Without any research, they will at least have the Chavez/Beers duo, plus some group of shooters. In the mold of Clark, Hidalgo, JuJu, Latson they will let Chavez run wild from Day1 to max out her 4 yr window.

Without knowing more yet, this makes them at worst a 22-8 type tournament team, or say #6 in SEC. Depending on returnees, freshmen, more transfers, they may have upside from this.

Oklahoma.

Good for Chavez and OU. Prefer to see talent spread out vs. stockpiled. Would love to see her do big things for Oklahoma like Clark did for Iowa, Juju's doing for USC, Betts for UCLA, etc.

Mostly the NIL money. I wonder if OK met her original price tag, which was reportedly $1 million.

Yeah I think u pretty much covered it. I'm pretty sure they'll have Peyton Verhulst as well. I like the pickup a lot, I guess the caveat is they continue to attract major talent via the portal like they did last off season. I didn't really get some of the other choices to be honest. UCLA and Texas both have experienced point guards and even good freshman backup point guards. Texas tech, I think being in the big 12 kinda hurts them. South Carolina kinda made sense to me, but SC is a school that I'm not sure she can expect to get the keys right away. Fulwiley was deemed generational and is still coming off the bench, respectfully. I think Chavez gets to be close to home, start, and play in a fun system that spreads the ball and allows her to play free from the get go. It's a big time get, feel like it should be getting more buzz. Unless ppl don't think Chavez is going to be great. But who's the last number 1 recruit to go to OU

I was wondering if OU met the price. Is she as good as Caitlyn, Paige, Juju, et al?

If she was the #1 QB in the class, I’m sure OK would come up with $1 million. Not sure about that much for a WBB player. I guess we’ll see how good she is over the next few years.

Agreed. It’s a positive choice for parity. I don’t care about her NIL deal, whatever it might be. She stayed close to home, sort of, and that’s probably positive for her family.

That said, I also wouldn’t be surprised if she transfers out within two years.

All I can say is..

But you do you Ms. Chavez.

I get the impression that putting up huge offensive numbers is important to her. I think she wants to follow the path of Clark/Juju. OU is close to home, probably paid her, and gives her the greenest of green lights. Their offensive mindset has been shoot anytime, from any where, under any circumstance, any player on the roster. So she’ll be able to shoot any shot she wants for 4 years.

Coming off the bench at South Carolina is better than starting at most schools. Fulwiley still gets the attention and accolades as do all of the bench players. The long bench gives you wins. Wins give you attention and attention get you NIL money. I think the girls have figured that out.

Agree that the deep bench gets wins and championships...and many players look for that.

...but playing time, piling up stats and leading a non power to ncaa promised land is another proven way to get recognition.

Plum, DelleDonne, Clark, Ionescu, Latson, JuJu, Blakes and next Chavez come to mind. (Bird, Anthony and Curry on men's side.)

This is not true. Just because a coach runs a different system than your favorite doesn't mean you have to disparage it. Per Massey they have the 2nd rated offense in the country. Per Hoophoopstats, 19th. Either way, you don't get to that point without a coach who knows what she's doing. Baranczyk's Drake teams were similarly well coached offensively.

I think that she is looking to put up big offensive numbers, and coast on defense. That's just the impression that I've gotten from her. I think that her family is so invested in squeezing out every dime that they can get, that it is likely that she will be going through a bidding process every year.

That said, Oklahoma is a great place to grow women's basketball. The only competition that OU has for sports eyeballs are OSU and the Oklahoma City Thunder. This has worked out great for their softball program, and you can see the investments being made in the area for other "Olympic" sports. If OU can retain her services, and build a major program around her, they will be able to put butts in the seats. For a conservative part of the country, women's collegiate sports do very well here.
