The entire NIL is a complete mess. I just hope the B1G and the SEC don’t destroy college basketball.

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

The best solution is to reduce football scholarships to 65 and cap walk ons at 10. That will spread the talent and give teams in the middle of the P4 a chance to compete for NC. Increase the playoffs to 32 teams. Let’s hope that the P2 does not destroy college basketball. The NCAA tournament is...

    Matthew Wood to the Portal

I’m not sure what the expectations are from the administration regarding hockey, but making the NCAA’s once every 5 to 7 years is realistic given the competition in HEA. If we moved to Atlantic Hockey, making the NCAA’s 4 out of every 5 years would be very doable.

We built an Atlantic Conference hockey rink. If we wanted to go head to head for National Championships with BU & BCU we needed to build a 6,000 seat arena. We belong in the Atlantic Hockey Conference as does Merrimack!

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

No, it’s a joint venture with the ACC. You can switch out your equity partners without buying them out. ESPN will just cherry pick the teams from the B12 to add to the ACC. Very simple and very clean business plan.

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

The ACC owns 50% of the ACCN. ESPN cannot transfer the network to another conference. This is why Big 12 teams will be added to the ACC.

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

ESPN is still and will continue to be the leader in sports tv. The ACCN is a big cash cow for ESPN. The revenues are going up significantly with the addition of the California and Texas markets. ESPN already streams a huge amount of ACC content. The cord cutters are not going to want to buy...

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

Unfortunately not because the revenue is not there. The ACC will have to renegotiate their contract with ESPN.

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

The Big 12 didn’t have the footprint for its own network and ESPN is not investing the money now to build a network for them. Not having your own network is a major disadvantage for the Big 12.

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

If you listen to the TV execs, commissioners and AD’s, population density does matter because that is where the viewers are living. This is the reason why the Big 12 was never able to get its own network. ESPN will keep the east coast markets and add in the best Big 12 markets. This will allow...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

The remaining ACC teams have bigger markets than the Big 12 teams and they will still have the ACCN. WVU, Cincinnati, UCF will all save on travel expenses big time. TCU, TT will want to be with Stanford & Cal. The infrastructure is just better in the ACC than the Big 12 as is the location of the...

    B1G & SEC non-committal on CFP future

The CFP should go to 32 teams and make December the new March Madness. It’s a fair measuring stick for coaches, gets rid of the meaningless minor bowls and gets every region of the country involved in the playoffs. P4 would get more slots for their teams (60%) that have absolutely zero chance of...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

The ACC will still have the ACCN and ESPN always needs programming. The B1G would have to take 2 ACC teams and the SEC 4 teams leaving the ACC with 13 teams plus ND. There are no major brands in the Big 12, but they could lose teams to the SEC and the B1G. Regardless of which conference loses...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

All future expansion is subject to the networks contributing hundreds of millions to make expansion possible. Barring that increased revenue, every B1G and SEC team will have to take a reduction in revenue for the sake of expansion. With the players looking to get paid, I don’t see the B1G or...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

I think UCF, WVU & Cincinnati would all join the ACC for travel reasons. It would make sense for the B12 and the ACC to stay as separate conferences based on geography, but share a TV contract.

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

ND is under contract to join the ACC if they decide to join a conference. They have their own tv deal, a seat on the CFP committee and a home for all of their teams in the ACC. There is no incentive for them to give any of that up. If the major brands leave the ACC, ND could join then, probably...

UMass > MAC for all sports in 2025-2026

I think the fans are here, they just don’t have a team to root for. As much as it pains me to say this, but if BCU gets good under Bill O’Brien it might actually help us if we can get back on their schedule. I would offer them 2 home games to our one game. Maybe even move our home game to...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

The problem with B1G is that most of their teams are terrible to watch. It’s a very regional conference. The USC and UCLA fans have zero interest in seeing games v Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland and especially Iowa!

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

With payments to players likely to come in the next few years, FSU will lobby the top B1G teams to go with unequal revenue sharing. It’s a principle thing to them. Sorry, adding FSU to the B1G is not going to make any recruiting difference to any team in the B1G. Every school already recruits...

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

That value would need to be around 100 million, plus they would need a 2nd team to join FSU. With the expected payments to players, FSU will definitely lobby Michigan, tOSU, USC, Oregon, Washington & Penn St to go to unequal revenue sharing. The bottom 1/2 of the B1G should want nothing to do...

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

They don’t need to add anybody. If they do expand they would need two schools that are at least going to grow revenues by 200 million per year to break even. That’s going to be very difficult to find. Oregon and Washington are getting partial shares, but in the next TV contact they get full...

    Schedules from 2025 on

We should offer BCU, SU, Pitt 2 home games for one game in East Hartford. This will make it easy for those teams to schedule us and we will be playing teams that we should beat or at least win 2 out of 3 every year.
  30. NE Football

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

Why would the bottom half of the SEC and the B1G want FSU in their conference? FSU would immediately go after those schools as not deserving equal revenue sharing. FSU would also be another huge obstacle for the bottom half of those conferences getting to the playoffs.

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

Why not ask? That leads them to the next step of getting 1/3rd of the playoff money. It’s another reason why further expansion of the B1G and the SEC is unlikely. The road to the playoffs for 12 of their 18 teams is already near impossible.
  32. NE Football

OT: Florida State to sue ACC over GOR

I think they are just going to expand the tournament to 16 teams. 5 AQ’s and 11 at large. The B1G and the SEC will get most of those at large bids via the CFP committee rankings. If one were to do the research using this model, they would mostly likely find this to be true over the last few...
