I expect she would show up on campus if she is serious about UConn. Let us see if that happens. I am assuming we would have heard if that had already happened.
I am looking forward to seeing Jana and the newbies in action.
I sincerely hope Yanna gets healthy and is able to recover her athletic prowess. She was able to dunk coming out of high school. She could be a tremendous help down low. I have not seen her play away from the basket so that could...
Geno would want to add a guard (that can also score) to allow Paige to move to spots from where she can create mismatches. If she attracts double and triple teams, you would want other players who are eager to score.
KK has the opportunity, over the next 3 years, to improve her shooting and...
Do we need new threads for
1. Players who entered the portal and came back to the same team
2. Players who were reported by the press to have committed to a school and they say they did not.
3. players who say they did not commit to a school but did so a few days later?.
4 ???
Lou may have done just as well. She was often “assaulted” since she was a scorer. Maybe with less injury she would have achieved as much or more! Hope she is back in action for the next WNBA season.
We did lose Nika to the W. So she could have an important role, particularly early in the season. The freshmen and the injured players may need time to get back to form.
I am not concerned. We got quite far with the team we had. With the returning players, the three freshmen and the return of injured players, we should be stronger. Yes, we graduated two to the W.
So the early games might be choppy. Though, we should be better this year as the team that...
I am not concerned about the caliber and talent of these two players. They need to want to come to UConn.
We don't know the state of health of many on the current roster. It would be reasonable to assume that they are all eager to make significant contributions in the next season.
So, any...
Happy if Maryland can sign Saylor, Amari, Mir, and Ines from the Portal. Some of these players already know each other and can add to the chemistry of the team overall.
It is best that those who are invited and choose to come here do so with the with the right expectations. UConn expects players to excel at both ends of the court, win championships, and aspire to make it to the Pros. In Geno and CD we trust!
How quickly people forget how individual performances from players like Hidalgo and Watkins changed the seedings landscape last year! Maybe Sarah could be a generational player! Allie won the girls and overall 3 point shooting contest handily at the McD All American outing recently. Maybe she...
I believe the five remaining players on the team that ended this season will be the ones starting next season. Others will get subbed in and start playing more minutes as the season goes on. I am hopeful there will be no off-season injuries!
She should try out, certainly. The selection committee should pick the best team. It will have many of the best players, but not all of the players selected will be the best players. There should also be one or two young players selected so every Olympic team has some returning players.
Utilizing the portal, particularly after years of injuries to the players, is a very good move. It gives us a few new players who have experience and the desire to make it into the WNBA. It also gives the returning (injured) players time to ease back into form. Re-injuries need to be avoided...
For Kiki, a native of LA, if academics and basketball are a priority, the top schools would be Stanford and UCLA, respectively. So my bet is on UCLA. UConn is a long shot unless there are connections and priorities I am not seeing.
I expect we will start the next season where we left off this year.
Paige, KK, Ash, Ice, and Q. Then the subbing will start based on how the practices have been going...
Congratulations to the girls! We will have three graduates playing on the team next year! If we pick up two more from the portal, we can play 5 graduates every now and then!
The logic behind my interest in one guard and one big is as follows:
1. I start with the team we had at the end of this season. We lost a point guard and a forward to the NBA draft. We need replacements for those.
2. It is not clear when the injured players will be at full strength, so even...
With Tara’s retirement, Geno becomes, among active coaches, the coach with the most wins. Within a few weeks into the next season, he should become the coach with the most wins, active and retired.
For spots 14 and 15, I would pick a guard (e.g., Chen or Olsen). For the other position we need someone who is taller and defensively minded. I am sure Geno has a good view on the health status of the current bench and will make judicious choices to balance the needs of 2024/25 and beyond.
I wish Ines the very best. She helped the program through a difficult time. Even in the limited minutes she played, she did it with commitment and passion. Those traits will bode well for her at her next destination.
Congratulations to Coach Staley and the team. A tremendous accomplishment! Celebrate #3 and get the team ready for a strong performance in the upcoming season.
Congratulations to the team on a courageous and exciting season! Very proud of how they fought and nearly pulled out a win. The very best to the graduating seniors. Nika played a spectacular game. Aaliyah, Paige, KK, Ashlyn, and Ice gave it their all. Go UConn!
Thanks for your post! The optimist in me is offering a simple change to a sentence you used. I would replace “This miracle run might end this weekend” with ”This weekend might end with a miracle run”. Go Huskies!
