OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

I believe I said I would expect equal punishment for all involved in a previous post. I'm not deflecting anything, I'm wondering why the difference in how the two (and others) are treated.

Me as well. The taping may have had some impact, it may not have. However you can't tell me that circumventing the salary cap didn't help the Bronco's two Super Bowl championship teams.

I have a love/hate relationship with McDaniels. Him as the OC in the super bowl scares the hell out of me.:( However, about that salary cap infraction...

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

    1. How does using a legal formation go against the spirit of the rule? I supposed the tackle catching a td pass goes against the spirit of the rule. So does the Seahawks' fake field goal? And when the Titans and Lions both used similar formations this past season? How about when Alabama used...

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

    1. The Patriots were the first (presumably only) team caught after the league directive to knock it off in early 2007. I'm not saying they weren't wrong but they weren't alone. They were caught. Nothing else has happened since then for them to be considered "cheaters", as in the present...

    OT: Pats-Colts

This phenomenon does not pertain to any one fan base. There will always be bandwagon jumpers. I am about the same age as you. When I got to UConn in 1997, there were a ton of Pats fans (coming off of a Super Bowl) but by my third or fourth year, the end of Pete Carroll and the rise of the...

    OT: Pats-Colts

Just so I'm clear, we are all ok with UConn being labeled as a basketball factory where the players don't ever go to class for eternity because of the APR thing right? That's how the Patriots are treated because of their being caught taping signals 7 years ago.

For those claiming recruits dont think about social media interactions when deciding...

I teach digital literacy/citizenship as part of my class and one thing I can tell you is that many adolescents/teens put more stock in what comes over their phone than what is said/done face to face.

For those claiming recruits dont think about social media interactions when deciding...

Well, the Maryland compliance office recently sent out a tweet asking their fans to remain hands off with recruits and potential recruits for fear of NCAA sanctions. Not sure how the NCAA, or anyone, can manage this. I mean, can I pose as a fan of another school and create potential violations?

    OT: Pats-Colts

Yes and I took your post to imply that they won their division and got a bye and two home games as a result. If that wasn't the intent, my bad. I would add to my list above that the only reason they hosted Baltimore after the 2012 season was because Baltimore beat Denver, otherwise they would...

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

I never said they didn't film signals, they didn't film practices. People throw it out there that they filmed the Rams like it's fact, they didn't. They did what numerous other teams did. They filmed signals from the sideline instead of from the end zone camera boxes (picture what is above...

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

I've seen this explained two different ways. 1. Each team uses its own balls. 2. The balls supplied by the teams are put into a pool and shared by the two teams during the game. Not clear to me either way.
  13. dsturdy5

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

They are alleging one of the balls passed inspection prior to the start of the game but became unusable during the game. Again, the NFL says this happens pretty regularly.

OT - Patriots DL feel good story

Vince Wilfork is a great person, had a chance to meet him a few times. He once got a citation from the MSP for dropping his plow during a snowstorm after a game to help clear the roads after a game so people could get home.

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

Two things... 1. As a teacher, if a kid cheats (mine or anyone else's) I hope the penalty is the same for all parties involved. 2. Let's say that the recording in 2007 was cheating, what have they done since then to be "cheaters"?
  16. dsturdy5

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

What the Patriots' investigation in 2007 comes down to, was that BB ignored a memo that was sent out to all teams a week or two before. The NFL came down on that pretty darn hard as Goodell wanted to show he meant business. In the aftermath, you had Johnson and Cowher come out and say they did...

    OT: Pats-Colts

FWIW, Peyton Manning has had plenty of byes and home playoff games and what is his record? Sure, it helps but it's not a free pass.

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

And honestly, I assume the NFL will sweep this under the rug. It comes down to protecting the brand.

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

So did the Jets in 2006 when the Pats caught them doing the same thing in the playoffs. So did the Cowboys as Jimmy Johnson admitted on Fox to doing the same thing. So did the Steelers under Cowher who did the same thing in the 1990's and 2000's. Where is the outrage for those three franchises?

Also, just heard Dean Blandino on NFL Network say it is not unheard of for balls to get pulled out of circulation and be removed then the ball is investigated. It happens fairly regularly.

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

They were not accused of filming a practice. They were accused by a disgruntled former employee of filming a walk through. Yet, no tape ever existed. That was proven to be false, yet it is reported as fact. The filmed from the sideline instead of the end zone covered box. Illegal? Sure...

Arguably the toughest games they had in that stretch were the Jets at home on a Thursday night.

OT - Multiple sources reporting investigation of Patriots

The NFL is claiming that a ball was taken out of circulation mid way through the game. Could it simply be that there was something wrong with the ball? If it were any other team, this doesn't even become a story. It is the Patriots and the "spygate" story that was blown way out of proportion...

    Refs jobbed UConn tonight. Disgraceful.

For everyone screaming about the "over the back" (no such rule) calls, or lack there of...this is where it all starts. If you put the guy on your back, you get a whistle when he jumps and reaches over you. Don't leave it up to the official, initiate the contact and take it out of the...

    Purvis...

He was on a bad ankle for a little while and the speed and pace of the game was probably a bit of a shock to his system after sitting out a year. I would assume those things are in the rearview and we will now see a more consistent Purvis.
  30. dsturdy5

    Some positives from last night

Purvis had a very balanced game, taking the mid range shots and then the open 3's. We can see why he could be so dangerous with a little more consistency.

UConn out of conference schedule for next season

I'd be shocked if Gillette hosts the Winter Classic. The game on 1/1 will lead into week 17 in the NFL season and it takes up to 3 weeks to take everything down. If the Patriots are hosting a playoff game on Wild Card or even Divisional weekend, there is no way they are leaving everything up...

    Refs jobbed UConn tonight. Disgraceful.

It doesn't work like football, where officials are assigned a single league. Officials work more than one league, usually a region. One of the guys working the game last night worked the UConn-Tulsa game too. They weren't "Pac 12" officials. Most guys work both P5 and non-p5 leagues...

    Refs jobbed UConn tonight. Disgraceful.

Two things I don't usually do... 1. Post during a game, it typically leads to embarrassing, emotional posts. 2. Bad mouth officials, they have a very difficult job. That all being said, this game has been among the most poorly officiated games I've watched this year. No consistency on calls...

    OT- Peyton

Given the cap implications of resigning one or both of the Thomas' Denver's team stands to look a whole lot different. I also read that Ware has a huge cap hit but even larger dead money hit if cut. There will be some big shake ups on that Denver roster this spring.

    UConn "Fans"

Some people would rather be correct than happy, so when they make an emotional statement they stick with it even to their detriment.
