While I appreciate Geno’s comments, he doesn’t really provide much insight. How did she first get on UConn’s radar? Who recruited her and did they travel to Serbia to meet Jovana and her family? Was she somehow connected to former UConn players from Eastern Europe: Nika, Dorka, Anna? Did she...
I think most POY awards are voted on in rank order by reporters, etc., i.e. you vote for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. So it’s possible for Azzi & Sara to trade 1st & 2nd place votes, where one or the other wins.
There’s a half dozen or so NPOY awards. My dream scenario would be 3 each for Azzi &...
I find it fascinating that Geno sat down with Blanca on Saturday for a 1 on 1 film session to review her mediocre performance against MI and then she came out on Sunday with a “lights out” performance against Utah.
Blanca could certainly force her way into the starting lineup this year. It...
A few days ago I felt like Sarah was a lock for NPOY. A few days later I’m thinking that Azzi has entered the discussion in a BIG way. Whatever happens, we are finally seeing the Azzi Fudd we all hoped to see 5 years ago, and she may be even better than we ever imagined. 🤩
There is 0 chance that KK comes off the bench. KK has assumed the largest responsibility of any Husky this year in stepping in to run the offense for both Paige & Kaitlyn. Her tenacious defense has been tremendous, a key component in UConn’s fast starts. On offense she’s orchestrating the...
A number of pundits have suggested that there is no clear #1 pick in this year’s draft as there was in each of the past 3 years: Boston, Clark & Paige. IMO Fam is a clear #1 pick. But her youth, the “hit or miss” history of overseas players in the W as well as questions about their long term...
Some more food for thought. I just took a look at Fam’s Euroleague stats. Early in the season she’s shooting 80% from the arc (4/5). 🤩 But don’t get too excited. She’s shooting only 50% (4/8) from the FT line. 🤯
Maybe she should step back to the 3-pt line to shoot her FT’s…… 😉
Food for thought. Recently, Curt Miller and his staff made a trip to Europe to scout potential draft targets. One of the places they went was Valencia, Spain, the current home and team of Awa Fam.
I think Tina still has some life left in her old bones. One more 3-yr contract with an opportunity to win that elusive championship trophy might just be the motivation she needs to finish her career on a high note.
The one factor that I probably shouldn’t overplay, but I will, is which players want to play together. I have argued that everyone loves Paige and she makes everyone she plays with better. Will she be something of a magnet when it comes to the Wings ability to attract veteran players. That’s...
I think this team will play in the 2026 World Cup, which many of the top veterans will skip. Stewie, Wilson, Pheesa and others will likely be back for the 2028 Olympics in LA.
That’s all fine. But she cannot defend athletic wNBA centers, so on occasion when the Wings play teams like Las Vegas or NY, Yueru plays sparingly. I think she’s fine off the bench as a reserve. But the Wings will never get to where they want to be with Yueru as their starting center.
