FWIW only 4 of 16 WBI games hit over 1000 in attendance, with Kansas State leading with 2800. Oregon State had 2000 (lost), North Dakota State had close to 1500 and BYU 1200 and change.
Still better than the WNIT, where none of the first round games (so far) hit 1000.
Oklahoma wasn't anywhere near that bad, and Braranczyk was well known and successful. Mulkey is Mulkey. And the portal and all that were nowhere near what they have become, not to mention the whole Covid effect.
If Redus can turn around Rutgers better than Becky Burke turned around Arizona...
I don't think you can judge the first year taking over an unsuccessful program. I would be surprised if he could pry any recruits from LSU, some Rutgers players and recruits (such as they may have been) will depart and the portal is a fickle thing. In today's world, very few coaches are...
At its simplest, UT saw a chance to upgrade. I don't know about men's basketball, but do know they are at their best competing at the highest levels in football, volleyball and softball, all sports I follow.
I didn't like the phrasing, but years ago coach Stringer made a comment about playing for scraps when you want a seat at the table (or something along those lines). She refused any lower tourneys until Rutgers made her go; in the end, Rutgers won the WNIT in 2014.
And that was when the WNIT...
Thank you, I was going to post. Arizona won the play in but lost the 1st round game, thus not facing Connecticut. It was Arizona's last NCAA appearance.
Connecticut's opponents for the first 2 rounds are certainly not an issue. The top seeds - except for the notable Stanford loss to Harvard...
There may be none from the Big 12 - I'm not sure Cincy and UCF care that much. If I was a fan of those teams . . .
Athletic departments in the power conferences are focusing on men's tournaments. The next week is the last likely week I think for much activity as I have always heard the WBCA...
Just add "recently" to your nobody dominating for an extended period of time. I don't know how long you have been following, but Robin Selvig had a long run at, IIRC, Montana.
I just hope you folks realize how absolutely rare it is for a team that is ahead to take a shot clock violation with time remaining. This is not common - some might not try to score too hard, but very, very few teams dribble it out. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking the...
In the abstract I agree, but part of the problem is almost everyone - UConn is always a notable exception - does a lot of stat padding out of conference. However, just winning games will not get you into the dance, which after all is largely driven by what can loosely be called analytics...
If you can find another team that sits 22 in the net with multiple quad one wins - that is not getting in the tournament - then you could make a case.
The biggest issue for Tennessee is the end of season swoon. And in some previous year type of metrics, it might have bounced them out. But as...
Give him at least another year. Houston was worse last year, or close to it. He probably inherited nothing worthwhile, probably doesn't have the cachet to attract any late recruits (portal or otherwise) that were not considering Houston (which probably no one was) and all in all did as well...
I don't really see why it will be bad. It is a crap shoot hiring someone without head coaching experience and it doesn't always work out. But Rutgers really wasn't going to get a top prospect or current head coach - why? because they have no money, and less now. The money they are losing is...
