That was my thought but to be honest I'm not that familiar with his game. If he doesn't have perimeter skills, I'm not sure he would work at the 4 spot in today's college game. Would be a nice piece though.
Agree. If he can back up Eric at center we won't need to sign a backup 5 man. We kind of get a 2 for 1 deal, we can use the NIL savings to sign another impact player.
I forgot about Thomas, I thought we were the leaders for him at one point, not sure what happened. It's kind of silly to complain about our recruiting given our success over the past few years, but just once I'd like to beat out Cal for one of these top 10 kids.
Agree about the tech. I think generally Hurley likes bigger guards, he recruited Newton and Silas is a bigger guard, County next year is also a bigger guard. We do need to hit the portal hard this off season, we need to get more athletic, more size and ball handlers.
I think he thought Mal and Silas would fix a lot of the issues from last season. I thought the same thing, but then again, I don't get paid millions to make these decisions.
Not sure what happened with Lewis. Maybe we backed off because we thought he was going to Kentucky? Maybe we already had Silas and Smith signed, not sure about the order of commitments. I wonder if we looked at Nigel James, right in our own back yard in Long Island.
Speaking of guys who can make plays off the dribble. I didn't realize Nigel James is from Long Island. Anyone know if we looked at him coming out of HS?
I was watching him the other day vs Kansas and thinking the same thing. The only thing is, I would think he'd be looking for starters minutes, and I don't think Eric has a backup role in mind for himself next season.
Limiting TO's will be the key. That's why I'd like to see Silas and Smith on the court together for stretches. Smith has had his struggles, but he can handle the rock. At the very least, it should allow us to get the ball up court quicker.
We'll see. As bad as we played last night, if either Solo or Alex hit their scoring average, we probably win the game. We do have talented players, but because of the problems you identified we just have a thin margin for error.
