records are almost identical so far. Starting pitching isn't as reliable as last year but there is definitely more depth in the pitching staff this year. Defense is better this year. Offense is more dynamic and athletic this year. Wouldn't surprise me if Sully turns into the Friday guy and Ellisen ends up in the rotation come may.
Agree that the lineup and defense are dynamic, and also that the rotation might shift in coming weeks.

Do we know why Quigley, who has the lowest ERA of starters by a good bit, isn’t slotted in this weekend? Is it health? I hope not.

I think our offense is being greatly helped by the incredible number of free 90s we're getting. Smith, Morton, Padilla and Garbowski have to start hitting to last year's numbers before I will be at all comfortable with the offense against really good teams.

In my mind, Smith has certainly picked up his offensive contributions since his very slow start to the season. He is currently hitting .250, but he has a solid slugging percentage and on base percentage as well. Also love his speed on the bases, and with all his stolen bases, he has only been caught stealing once so far this season. Don't mind him being in the leadoff spot in the lineup at all with what he is doing.

However, yes, Morton, Padilla, and Garbowski certainly all need to pick up their offense. If those guys get going on offense and get somewhere near their offensive totals from last season, this could truly be a dangerous offensive team.

Very intrigued to see what our lineup looks like when TC is cleared to return. Is Morton in competition with him all of a sudden? Would be very hard to take Daniels out of the lineup with his dynamism all over the field and I agree that Smith has been very impactful despite lower offensive numbers than last year. And Studley is a Stud. So… what gives? Good problem to have!

The one area where Morton is doing better this season is that he is taking more walks. However, is average is way down from last season, so it isn't as if he has a great on base percentage at this point in the season.

Did not follow much of the game, because was busy booking hotels and flights for Houston. But another Gutty win to sweep a good Rutgers team. Now we have BC coming in on Wednesday. They are 17-5 and just won 2 of 3 from NC State. Their RPI is at 7.

Great weekend.

Go Huskies!!!

Another metric to keep an eye on as the season progresses:

“RPI+ is a modified RPI statistic that factors in conference RPI, conference record, and other factors. RPI+ has been more accurate than RPI in picking at-large teams in each of the last four years.”

UConn @ #22 here.

Morton's offense picked up as well over the last several games, his average is now up to .270. I am inclined to think that Morton and Padilla should flip their current spots in the batting order.

So we went 4 -1 in last 5, with 4 of those games vs Rutgers and BC. I think we all would have taken that, but man would it have been nice to beat BC yesterday. We now have a 4 game stretch vs UHart (302) and UMBC (215). Can't afford a letdown vs these teams.

Also I am going to do the best I can to update chart this weekend. I am off to Houston and am not sure if I will have the time. Plus I usually update from my computer and not my phone. I am not the most computer savvy person.

Great weekend for UConn sports. Hoping the baseball team keeps winning, and we come back from Houston with a national championship.

Go Huskies !!!

Took care of business early and easy this afternoon. Our RPI took a hit, even with the win. Playing these high RPI teams are almost must wins, in that a loss would hurt a great deal. Nothing we can do but keep on winning.

Go Huskies!!!

It's too bad, but now that UHart is transitioning to DIII, we should not schedule them again.

In the post game interview Coach Penders talked about Hartford baseball and their coaching staff, who are former UConn coaches. Penders said that this will be the last game against Hartford due to their dropping out of D1 after this season.

I apologize that I have not been updating chart as timely as usual. Got back from Houston Wednesday, needed to catch up at work and now leaving for an out of state wedding this weekend. Overall liked what we have done, but the Columbia game still bothers me. Big series away at Xavier this weekend. They are currently the only other Big East team with an RPI under 100. They come in at 38 and have won their last 11 games.

Would love to win this series.
