The Hartford-New Haven Designated Market Area (DMA) is ranked No. 30 in the country by Nielsen, with 996,500 TV homes. At No. 48, Louisville has 670,880 TV homes.
That's more than 300,000 more TV homes, which equals revenue.

"These decisions are being driven by media and by business," said New York-based sports media analyst Lee Berke, president & CEO of LHB Sports. "It's driven by media revenues, by network negotiations, by network development. The shear size of a media market factors into the influence that people have in a particular market factors into it. … UConn has a substantial presence in the market."

Great work by Doyle. No way around this one. More tv's, more affluence, and keeps NYC in play. Sucks to be on the other side of ESPN in conference expansion, but that is Louisville's fault.

It would be incredibly frustrating if, after a decade of being told all this conference expansion and cold-blooded murder of traditional rivalries was solely due to factors like TV money and market size, we were to lose out to a program with a market 33% smaller than our own (and I assume that doesn't include our fans in the NYC and Boston markets)

That snippet doesn't include UConn's penetration into New York. But Doyle has the NAMED tv expert really explain its significance, including the fact that UConn has sNY. At this point, with Rutgers, MD and Penn State between the ACC south and Pitt, BC and Syracuse, the ACC has no choice but to infill the NY area as much as possible.

We also get good coverage in the 413. Not UMass good but decent enough that it would bolster overall numbers

Louisville fans retweeting this article, conceding market size, then declaring that is UConn's ONLY advantage over them. Umm... Hahahahahahahaha
