It's kind of depressing how many non-fans online thought Pastner got lucky and upgraded his job for the sole reason of "P5". It's like a chorus of parrots just repeating these buzzwords they hear on ESPN, despite the fact a non-P5 has won 2 of the 3 last titles in basketball.

Everyone seems just so thrilled with the P5 label because it creates a dichotomy between the "in crowd" and the rest, and everyone wants to elevate their own situation by putting down another, it's human nature. /rant

But the "in crowd" plays the "in" teams on a regular basis and that's something every UConn fans want. Regardless of ESPN's agenda.

That's why it's so important for schools like Memphis to be strong. There are certain "in" teams outside of the P5. These are schools that have made a lot of noise in the past. When they are good, they are respected as if they were P5 schools. Nova, GT, and Marquette in the BE, maybe SJU if they get rolling. In the AAC, it's UConn, Cincy, Memphis, and Temple, with Houston being similar to SJU, in that if they get rolling, respect will come quickly. Get those programs going, and no one will bitch about UConn's schedule being weak.

If Memphis pull this off it'll be the best recruiting job any AAC team has ever done.
