Onions and Daggers in his holster!

"the daggers in his holster" is probably my favorite cbb call!

that being said, i think a "dagger" can't really be a game-winning or -tying shot -- it has to seal the game late and/or completely take the wind out of the opponent's sails. think others have expressed this.

Raferty with the call on this one:

Lamb was the best freshman we have had (college performance) since the mid 2000s.

He is so underrated in his contributions to that championship.

That is a DAGGER for sure.

Does a dagger have to be a jumpshot?

I always imagine a dagger as a long-range shot, particularly one that barely hits the net.
I think a dunk can be a dagger if It meets the other criteria, but yeah, I usually think of it as being a three.

I always thought it was a critical 3 that put a relatively close game out of reach in the closing minute or last few minutes of a critical game.

Years ago (1998), I believe UNC knocked down a 3 vs our Huskies to extend their lead to 71-60 with just a few minutes to go. That was a dagger.

I always thought a dagger was the shot that demoralize the opponent and immediately stops any comeback attempt. Typically happens late in the 4th quarter. Daggers are only applicable for the winning team.

I never viewed game winners as daggers.

Rashad Anderson delivered the most daggers. We’d be up 4 with <1 min to go and he’d stick that dagger. Major intestinal fortitude!
