Updating the latest rumors, the fledgling league has reportedly found its sponsor. Insurance companies passed, so they had to look elsewhere locally, and as a result we should soon hear which 15 or 16 teams will be invited to join The Big Pez Conference.

On the down side, it sounds less prestigious than the Aetna Conference or the Cigna Conference. On the plus side, the logo will now be very easy to design.

The Big Pez Conference beat out the second place finisher, The Big Linda McMahon Conference. McMahon spent another 60 million of her own money to try to get the rights to the conference name, but came in second in the voting.

The rumors are swirling about possible infighting already. Yale supposedly wants to keep its crew programs independent so it can still go to the Head of the Charles "where there are drunk hotties everywhere". This apparently is non-negotiable. Trinity also really wants to link up with the Directional Five, not because it identifies with those schools all that much, but because they could make the trophy a weathervane, and this would be the first time that having a bantam rooster for a mascot would ever be useful. Western Connecticut alums are griping about Eastern bias and already want to expand Big Pez into Westchester County, which open up the league to the New York market and "I own a college" jokes. And Quinnipiac was reportedly holding up the deal, but apparently it was just having a snit because nobody was pronouncing it correctly.

There's also a push to expand into New York even further and invite Army, enticing Coast Guard to also join for a spot. This would allow for both a natural athletic rivalry, as well as an invasion of Rhode Island so that Connecticut can have better beaches (and possibly Newport, if Big Pez wants it). With a strong military presence available to it, Connecticut could also invade Massachusetts and take back the little nook missing from its northern border. UConn folks feel this would allow the sort of border smoothness that made Nebraska and Colorado such appealing choices for expansion.

I heard from a good source that the Pac12 will add FSU, Gtech, NC, and Virginia -perhaps for football only.
