Ohio State took down the Lady Vols by 12!! That's why preseason polls aren't worth the paper on which they're written. They are supposed to be a Number 1 seed (according to the latest bracketology) but lost to No. 14 Ohio State. That's why they play the games!!!

They didn’t need to play any games to see something like this coming. Everyone who wasn’t a sportswriter could probably see it. Tennessee was overhyped and over ranked. But it is satisfying to see an actual game bear it out so quickly.

How far should they fall in the rankings on Monday? There aren’t a lot of competitive games schedule this week. They get to save face against UMass. Creighton should probably rise after beating SDSU and if they beat SDak . SC is playing MD. That’s about it.

Should they fall out of the top 10?

No. 14 Buckeyes stun No. 5 Volunteers 87-75 in women’s basketball season opener

Like UConnCat said..............after the first 2 weeks, ALL of those PRESEASON polls will be forgotten. That's a hard way to begin a season. Losing to a team that's ranked below you.

Every single opponent is going to pressure the Vols until they solve that profound weakness. There was one point in the second half where they had more turnovers than shots attempted. If Ohio State had just shot normally in the first half, they would have won this game by 30 points. They were clearly the better team.

Tennessee has a lot of new parts that they have to figure out who's who. Simply played the game on athleticism. They're a top team, they just faced a style early in the season that is tough to play against. They also don't have a floor general.

Kelli Harper, got fooled by first half success. Coach Harper had to know, OSU missed a bunch of free throws and wide open 3's whileTurning over Tennessee double digits in the first half. OSU was bound to start cashing in on those turnovers and start hitting 3's. Tennessee never slowed down the game and use their height advantage. OSU is a fearless team.

What is amazing about Tennessee’s inability to handle Ohio State’s press is that Harper started 3 players (Powell, Walker, Horston) who have played point guard. It’s not like Tennessee didn’t have ball-handlers on the court.

Yea...that was puzzling. Powell gets an A for her scoring, but she needs to put a little more emphasis on running the offensive execution and tempo. She's good. She's new so I get it. Horston still seemed to want to play the point guard at times. She should take advantage of Powell being present because Horston is a career turnover specialist. When things got tight...Powell and Horston started going one on one. When that happened the rest of the team just checked out and/or lost a feel for the game. The good thing is it's very early in the season and a lot of this can probably be corrected by fixing their composure.

Not that it mattered, but Tennessee had 2 players out, 1 So. guard Wynn due to surgery for a broken nose and the other Fr. sharpshooter Pissott due to concussion protocol.
And they were playing away.

I thought Powell's BIG10 experience would have helped her yesterday knowing that OSU presses like that. Running an offense isn't her strong suit however from what I've seen of her play when she was with Minnesota. She's going to revert to a one on one game out of habit when things break down. That could be a problem for Tennessee long term if that continues.

One thing I observed from TN’s loss to tOSU was that the LV’s really struggled to defend the arc in the 2nd half, and the Buckeyes made several critical 3-pt shots to put the game away. If TN doesn’t shore up their defense by the time the Huskies roll in on Jan 26, it could be a long day facing the likes of Azzi, Lou, Caroline & Dorka.

Speaking of Minnesota, two freshmen connected to Paige did well in their first game together: Amaya Battle, who played pg at Hopkins, and Mara Braun, who played against her at Wayzata HS and often ended up guarding her.
