(For the non soccer / non brits. .. Sacked = fired)

I know there's a few Spurs supporters on this board...

With the sale of Bale, elevated expectations and a pile of cash it was perhaps inevitable that a team that has problems against legit top four clubs would make this move. The two big names mentioned as candidates are Capelo and Hiddink, I think the latter might be the first one I'd go to (turnaround specialist).

They'd be lucky to avoid relegation at this point. The beatings they've taken the last two weeks is a team that's given up.

They can be saved by a new manager and a transfer or two, but giving up 5+ goals in two games in month is rough.

Re: Bale - Because they thought the sum of the additions equaled a more complete team. What it looks like now is, Bale made AVB look good last year. Probably fair, because basically if Bale didn't score, Spurs didn't score. Now, no Bale and no one scoring...that points directly at AVB. I like(d) AVB, but it was all horribly wrong this season. Teams with much less talent score more often than Spurs. Something had to change.

yup, total lack of creativity and tactics this season. yesterday against liverpool was truly painful - had the defensive line playing up high and suarez and co absolutely had their way.

(i thought i) liked avb, but this had to happen.

and i second ted lasso for manager.

They got thumped by a magnificent side. :)

So happy to have relevant, important matches on Merseyside again. But I think this sacking is terribly unfair to AVB.

That might be a little bit of an overstatement. They are in truble but not relegation trouble as of right now

5 goals is a travesty! A new coach should institute zone blocking with more prototype defenders on the pitch.

Unfair is strong. The team literally doesn't score. Like ever.

Soldado has proven to be a bust and Lamela has not adjusted yet. Other than Paulinho, Townsend and Lewis Holtby, the side looks lifeless. Thank you to AVB for allowing Liverpool the space to decimate.

Oh, they score plenty in the Europa cup against sides from Bratislava or Minsk or wherever. The problem is they don't score in the premiere league, and the concede a ton against top teams. It's sort of like doing well in the preseason NIT against low-majors and then getting blown out in your own gym when the conference schedule starts.

I think you mean non-pretentious /non brits?

What is it about watching soccer that makes people do this? He got sacked, not fired?

Why is a soccer field now a pitch? Why is sacked now fired? Why is it side not team?

Where do you draw the line?

On the days you watch soccer, do you see lories on the road when you are buying petro? Go to the boozer and get a pint a biters and watch the game on the tele?

Do you have special knickers for the game?

Is it only game day? Do you bring out the pretentiousness for only the premier league or do even 7 year old girls play on a pitch?

It's bitters by the way. ;)

And it's keeper, not goalie. Don't know why getting right puts a wankers knickers in such a twist.

It had to be done. His tactics were curious at best, he lost that club (same thing happened when he was at Chelsea). No trust/confidence from your players, then it is time to go. Early in the year I chalked it up to the team becoming familiar with eachother, then as the season went on it only got worse.

Levy should have went after Roberto Martinez after 'arry went on his way. The fact he kept Wigan playing in the BPL for the time they were with the budget and roster he could assemble was nothing short of miraculous. Spurs missed out (so did Man U - they also should have hired him over Moyes). Will be interesting. Hopefully this will provide a spark for these guys. They do have talent on the roster. Also missed by not bringing in a more creative midfielder, or someone who can hold down the left side. Look what Ozil has done for The Scum. He is as big of a factor as any for their success. He makes the players around him that much better, as did Bale when he was at WHL. Spurs should have worked a deal for him as part of the Bale package, with a reduced transfer fee for Bale (not sure they can do that in soccer though).

Or maybe its because the primary media coverage of the EPL is from (very oh so suprisingly) England. Like this headline:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-manager-leaves-post-Liverpool-thrashing.html

By the way, I go to the boozer and get a pint a biters seven days a week.

Right. I get why they say that in the English press.

I was actually talking about the boneyard.

I'm with you on this.

Do you think the Brits adapt to our way of speaking when talking about American football? Do they say the Texans fired Kubiak? Or did they sack him?

Agreed. Which is why I didn't bother mentioning it. They've played absolutely no one in the Europa Cup thus far.

You are right for some reason I thought they fell further down the table with them seemingly losing every match. They are still within distance of a top 4 finish. Curious, to what the real reason for the sacking is. Is it just 2 embarrassing losses and lack of scoring punch?

It's three bad losses (3-0 to West Ham), the lack of any offense whatsoever, and lastly, the lone strength Spurs had (defense) is now gone as well. Some were saying give him more time, but the fact of the matter is they were playing better at the beginning of the season. They weren't improving..they were getting worse.
