Little switch-up w/ Simeone going Gm 3 instead of Gm 4 as projected:

Bushling at 9 is new, he probably wants him to get on base so the guys at the top can drive him in

Bushling has been slumping, but apparently he is also one of the guys who missed time and are recovering from Covid, according to what Chris Jones said during the broadcasts yesterday. Bushiing did not have a good day at the plate yesterday, so the two combined might account for his move to the bottom of the order. Once Bushling starts to hit again, I would expect him back at the top of the order.

Also, Coach Penders in the post game interview yesterday mentioned several players who apparently had the brush with Covid. Pat Gallagher was one of the guys mentioned. It could be that the coaching staff is giving him an extra day of rest to regain strength.

Top 1st, the red hot Kyler Fedko starts the game with a leadoff double. He's stranded there.

Bottom 1st, first two Xavier batters reach on an error and a walk. A one out single off the glove of Bushling brings in a run for Xavier. Runners at the corners. Simeone makes a nice play on a bunt to get the runner at the plate for the second out. 1-0 going to the top of the 2nd.

It amazes me how many chances we give this guy and yet others still have yet to see the field. I don't care how electric someone is during practice, if it doesn't translate to live games, then why?

Seems like Haus would be a solid #3 or #4. Maybe he's too valuable in the long relief role to make the move?

My wife's car has been at the auto mechanic today, just got back from dropping her off to pick it up. Walk in the house to the sound of an Xavier homer off of Justin Willis who had relieved Simeone. 8-1 after 4 innings.

Haus is certainly valuable out of the pen, but if guys like Lucas, Mayock, McBride and/or Favieri show something now that they are healthy enough to pitch, that would certainly increase the depth of the pen. Penders did talk in an interview a while ago before the start of Big East play about the possibility of moving someone like Haus to the starting rotation if guys like Simeone and/Gallagher didn't work out, so it shouldn't be ruled out at this point.

Bottom 5th, UConn down 8-1, Will Lucas on the mound to start the inning, making his first appearance of the season. Before he got hurt, Lucas had been mentioned as a possible starting pitcher at the beginning of the season. Lucas did well last season, so I am eager to see how he does.

Well that’s a much better excuse than coming home from work and falling asleep in the recliner @ 1-1.

Bottom 5th, a scoreless inning for Lucas after a 2 out single. Not bad at all. He threw 7 pitches that inning.

Bottom 6th, Garrett Coe takes the mound to start the inning. Another guy I've been wanting to see what he can do. The problem with very few midweek games is that guys like Coe don't get much of a chance to pitch and show what they can do in a game situation.
