Samu might be UConn’s most important player. He is UConn’s best faceoff man, creates, passes, and has been doing well on the power play from the right side.

He won the defensive zone faceoff after the icing and created the first chance at the other end to get Merrimack back on their heels which eventually led to the Lucas goal.

Looking for points, any points next weekend. Accomplish that and a winnable Dartmouth/Lowell await at home followed by a tough trip to Maine for one game before the break. Like a bye week, that can really work out for Uconn this year. Coming away w points against BC is key in my opinion. All things considered, I think their trending upward as a team. A win will do that sometimes!

Hockey East is just a gauntlet of a league this year. UConn is the weakest team in the league this year and ranked 42. That’s not too shabby.

UConn isn't the weakest team, but they haven't had the best start which in a way is better than the 9-1-1 fools gold we saw last year. Their current position in the HE standings is respectable. What I see in this list is lots of opportunity to grab points from highly ranked teams according to pairwise and therefore make a climb upwards. Two losses to Holy Cross really messed with UConn's position tho..

I'm still standing by achievable goals for UConn at this juncture where they have their fate in its own hands - since pairwise also dependent on the performance of other teams.

1) Win the CT Ice Tournament in January.
2) Finish Top 4 in Hockey East - secure a home game for the HE Playoffs
3) Get back to the TD Garden

I agree with that. Long season ahead and alot of opportunities to beat some ranked opponents. BC/UML/Maine in conf before the break…I’m hoping for 7-8 points in those 4 contests.

Being ranked at 42 would not be too shabby in other college sports where there are hundreds of teams in the rankings. However, there are only about 64 teams in Division 1 men's college hockey this season.

True, but it's an early snapshot (no pun intended ;)) and honestly even with those horrendous HC losses, playing around 0.500 early in the season isn't a death knell. As was mentioned plenty of opportunity left. Other than some inopportune turnovers the eye test says that some line and D pairings are starting to gel and improve.

It seems that too many times there is a rebound present there's a whole scramble in front of the net. The puck eeks out towards the blue line and the D tends to fire it right into traffic. They need the poise to make a pass outside and get that hoarde moving.

The PP is looking better - but only if they have an opportunity to set up. Getting to that formation has been and still continues to be a problem. Lucas is playing some great hockey lately and he can bring the puck into the zone so UConn maintains possession - Bradley too but not many on the squad have that innate ability.

Hard to know who is best and/or worst. This may be the most evenly-matched group since UConn joined in 2014-2015. BC looks best on paper, but, then again....................on any given night? Could be a wild and wooly season!
