Some of the numbers from the Louisville beat down are truly amazing. For example, L'Ville shot 73.3% in the 1st period, but fell to 20% in the 3rd quarter & 29% in the 4th.
Here are some other great stats:

1. Paige had 5 blocked shots in the game to bring her 2 game total to 9. Her entire freshman year she had 11 blocked shots & her sophomore year she finished with 11 blocked shots.
2. Aubrey & Aaliyah shot 19 for 23 or 83% from the field.
3. Nika was the the leading rebounder for either team with 7. (Tied w/ Aaliyah)
4. Paige, Nika and Aubrey were a combined 6 for 9 from three point range. (KK, Q and Ashlynn were 1 for 9 from three range.)
5. Louisville scored 27 points in the 1st period, but then only 20 points in the entire 2nd half.
6. UConn's 24 assists on 32 baskets was a season high.
7. Paige was 4-6 from three pt range. L'Ville team was 4-15 or 26%.
8. Aubrey leads the Huskies in free throw % with 82% (27-33). Freshman year, she made only 60% of her free throws.
9. Aubrey, Aaliyah and Paige outscored Louisville 67-62.
10. UConn's shooting % from the field in the first 3 periods was 69%, 62% and 60%. In the 4th quarter, their free throw % was 92% (11-12).

Quick turnaround for the Butler game Monday night at 7pm in Hartford.
Go Huskies..!!

Great stuff! Thanks David! Without paying attention to to any of the numbers, it "felt" like a really good game all the way around. Of course you provide the precise numbers to help out with what we saw when we watched the game. Always appreciated!

Those numbers are all true, and watching the game from a near-courtside seat in the arena, it felt to me like a blowout after the first quarter. Even so, some of the team numbers were surprisingly "meh":
  • Louisville led 11-5 in offensive rebounds, and 9-5 in second-chance points.
  • Turnovers were high and nearly even: 19 for Louisville vs. 20 for UConn. In the arena, it felt like UConn was dominating in that department.
  • Steals were tied at 12-12, again quite different from what it felt like watching live.
  • Points off turnovers only favored UConn by 25-22.
  • Points in the paint were 40-30 in UConn's favor, which is impressive against a bigger team which was really quite skilled, but still that isn't such a big margin.
  • BUT -- fast break points favored UConn by 24-10, which is exactly what it felt like watching the game live.
  • Bench points were 25-9 in favor of UConn (um, actually it was in favor of Aubrey, who scored every single one of them).
I wonder if some posters still think that Aubrey's finishing skills aren't good enough for the WNBA. I'm thinking that the Connecticut Sun might draft her in the second round as a one-for-one replacement of Tiffany Hayes (who was also drafted in the second round way back long ago). Remember that their coach, Stephanie White, was sitting courtside broadcasting yesterday's game.

Their 3 scorers were really good in this game. They didn't miss a bunch of bunnies which has been an issue in the games they lost early. The result was dominant against a solid team which should give them a lot of confidence moving forward. It will be interesting how it carries over to the Butler game.
