- Less than a minute in, Sanogo chases a rebound into the corner. Starts to back toward the rim. He's double teamed. Ajax is in the lane, and he's double teamed, too. Sanogo tries to pass it to Ajax. Intercepted, of course. If four butler guys are occupied guarding 2 UConn guys, there's got to be at least two Huskies wide open. Why try to force it inside?
- 12:50 -- JoeyC with the lousy defense that's been a more consistent part of his game than his three point shooting. Follows the pass to someone who is already covered, leaving the 3 point shot open for the guy he just left. Did pretty much exacty the same thing in the last game, too.
- Diarra made some good stuff happen pretty quickly when he came in.
- Hawkins started slow, but he brought the full trick bag with him, and has opened it up a bit later in the first half.
- Two minutes left in the half, 19 point lead. Closing the first half has been a sore spot for the Huskies of late. Lets see how they do today.
Sanogo misses FT.
Foul on Diarra.
2 Butler FTs.
Calcatera's shot blocked.
Hawkins fouled on a 3.All good.
Butler deuce.
Newton circus shot good.
How the hell was that not a foul on Turnbull?
Karaban's FTs make it 23 at the break.
Sloppy end of half, but hey, the result was positive. - At the break, we lead in every category but FT%.
- Sanogo is one point and one rebound away from a double double in the first half.
- Heck of a half by Newton. 7 points, 4 boards, 2 dimes, a steal and only one foul.
- OK, the opening minutes of the 2nd half has been another weak stretch for us. Let's see how the beginning of part 2 goes.
Jump ball on the first rebound of the half.
2 minutes in, Sanogo's got his double double and the lead is up to 25.
2:13 in, and it's 28.
Four minutes into the half before Butler scores.
I guess we opened the half strong for once. - When Sanogo came down with the ball and Harris grabbed him by both forearms and never touched the ball, the ref called it a jump ball? And Donny and Brando couldn't stop talking about what a great play Harris made.
- Ajax pass to Hawkins for the eventual dunk was as beautiful a pass as I've seen in quite a while.
- Remember when Clingan could shoot freethrows? Yeah, neither do I.
- Strong all round game from Karaban.
- Our FT defense was awful. We let Butler make 100% from the line. Weak distraction tactics on the part of the students behind the basket.
- Outrebounded Butler by 26 (48-22).
- 19-8 advantage on assists. We assisted on more buckets than Butler made.
- Overall, our starters played great, but of the subs, only Diarra had a decent game, shooting 3 for 3 with 3 assists, a steal and a block.
