Really ugly video of Izzo going after one of his players. Gets in his grill. Player walks away. Grabs the kid by his arm. Kid pulls away. Grabs him by his shirt to try to restrain him. Kid attempts to swat his hand away.

No place in 2021 for a coach who thinks he can lay his hands on a kid in anger. It's completely unacceptable.

Put him out to pasture. RIP Tom Izzo. RIP, Michigan State.

Izzo has done it before. I recall something happening a few years ago

Exactly! I doubt any of those offended played any high level of competitive sport and wonder if those offended have bothered to see how many times coaches revered here grabbed a player and escorted them out of a game or yelled at a player?

This debate has been beaten to death so shame on me for even responding, but first of all you're wrong about people who don't like this not having played competitive sports at a high level (i wonder what the highest level of competitive sports you played is - i would hope at least division 1), you're wrong that what people are objecting to is a player being "yelled at," and calhoun has been referenced already in this thread. so a slick little 0-3. again, reasonable minds can disagree about this without someone being wrong or unqualified to have an opinion.

Why would you think this hurts the mojo? Sparty losing in humiliating fashion while the coach and players meltdown is as good as it gets. Screw 'em.
Didn't say it hurts Mojo. I was just wondering if a little more could be had with another judgement.

No I would just flip out, man up and deal with it the best I could. I don’t cry to anyone. I’ll handle the situation myself.
by the way, I’m sure you’re one of the many drivers out there who aren’t smart enough to drive between two solid lines. Keep working at it. Maybe one day....
What does that even mean?

Izzo should have ordered the code red through his assistant to the players on the team. Seriously, maybe it happens out of sight, but if a drill sergeant ever laid a violent hand or physically restrained a recruit AND it was captured on video, he would be punished or finished. Screaming at the recruit without touching, however, is acceptable. I think this would be an analogous comparison.
Imagine Dershowitz (sp?) defending Mich St or Izzo in court. He calls Dranond Green to the stand and asks him to point out the page in the basketball program where code red is! Lol

Something I’ve observed to be almost universally true in life, is that people who feel the need to publicly blast other peoples moral mistakes or moral short comings, often aren’t the most moral themselves.

The more of a public champion for morality someone is by shaming someone else’s moral shortcomings, the less secure they are with their own morality.

Just like how bullies make fun of other people because they are insecure with themselves.

Maybe the posters on here calling for Izzos head really are the children of god and perfect in their life. But it’s unlikely.

lol, based on this reply, I believe you are a child of god and perfect in life.

Extremely disappointed

That this thread has made it 8 pages without the phrase “pussification of America” being sputtered
Because it's 2021, I'm thinking.

Cool. Throw him on the bench to start the second half. Pull him aside after he calms down. There are many ways to coach without physically grabbing and then running down your players. Both let their emotions get the best of them but only Izzo physically did anything. It was not appropriate. I'm sure he'll hear about it from the AD, and they'll all move on with life.

I'm sure you'd be okay if your boss did this to you when you screwed up at work, right?
I think so many people miss the point here. These are grown men, adults; young but adults nonetheles. It’s 2021 and you can’t do that as a coach. You can’t do it at work, or in the classroom or anywhere else. The coaches behavior was overly aggressive in this situation. The player was walking away and did what he needed to do. No one on this board in a college class would think it was acceptable for a professor or any administrator to physically grab them like that. No one would be o.k. with it so why are so many people on this board o.k. with it? I think folks should really think about this. Why is it o.k. for this player to accept this from his coach but no one else would in their college class, job, church or anyone else.

With that said Izzo should not be fired however there should be a reprimand by the University and an apology to the player and his family.

He shouldn't have grabbed him but that's hardly a fireable offense
When Jim Calhoun felt he had to explain himself after someone wrote an article about his language, he said sometimes I need to use the expletive word just to get their attention. Players get a lot of idolation and often start believing it themselves, so Jim had to give them a wake up call and get their attention before he could get into the details of what they had to work on.
