You know the stat that sticks out more then all the scoring, the high shooting percentages, the phenomenal defense and defensive numbers? UConn hasn't allow a foul shot in two games. Talk about discipline and poise. You cant make these numbers up. I have said this is the best outside shooting team Ive ever seen, however the stat of no foul shots in 2 games is simply amazing. As a fan I don't think people realized or can get a grasp of how crazy good this team is. Beating teams by double digits consistently is amazing but to be beating them by 20 30 50 60 pts a game is crazy good. For all those teams who think they have a chance, for all the folks voting in the polls or creating the brackets I hope you all understand that all the posts I write are not hype, not some crazy UConn fan I hope you realize that this is how I see it based on the facts and UConn aint goin away any time soon.

Sans the Stanford anomaly, how is this year's team doing versus last year's team, statistically? It feels like the margin of victories is higher, and there are more blowouts. Anyone crunch the numbers ( exclude the Stanford game.)

If you use my per-40-minute spreadsheet, all you must do is move the "Stanford" tab to the left of the "Season Start" tab and look at one of the "Season Summary" tabs to get this info for this year:

Code:
Name GP FGM FGA FG% 3FGM 3FGA 3FG% FTM FTA FT% OR DR TR AvgR PF FO AST TO A/TO Blk ST Pts Avg BRATS EP Pts/att
UConn 25 870 1617 53.8% 207 505 41.0% 284 395 71.9% 338 777 1115 44.600 277 1 541 310 1.745 209 269 2231 89.2 71.32 -41 1.38
Opp 25 440 1536 28.6% 129 497 26.0% 134 198 67.7% 332 469 801 32.040 379 4 222 476 0.466 49 152 1143 45.7 16.96 -324 0.74

I'll check last year's sheet to see if I can do something similar.

Don't ever change Tony. Yes, this team does not "play down" and that should give pretty much everybody else pause. Lions and tigers and Huskies, oh my!

Yes, try to compare to the first 25 games last year. I'm not familiar with some of your columns, though. But all of those categories might prove interesting.

ETA: AAC was a little tougher last year, with Louisville and Rutgers.

I think it really make no sense to compare apples to oranges. Our opponents are not as strong as last year, we played less ranked teams as well. Of course the numbers are gonna be up...

Statistics aside it seems to me that right now UConn is playing as well or better than any time last year. Granted the conference opponents are not strong, but Tulane was 19-5 and UConn made them look like a high school team (slight exaggeration). And they beat the #1 team in the country by 25 points. How often has a #1 team lost by 25? Not to say it isn't a total team effort, but I think Jefferson's out of this world play lately is what is really driving things.

Last year's field was definitely stronger. Other than Baylor, UConn hammered the other ranked teams routinely by 20 point. I would say Last year's ND/Baylor/Lousville/Duke/Cal/Stanford/Maryland were definitely much stronger than the ranked teams UConn faced this season..

For what its worth...thru Feb of last season UCONN beat the top 25 ranked teams by an average of 20.8 points. This year , including the Stanford loss, the average MOV is 21.2.....sounds like a dead heat

The amazing thing,to me,is how many of these games that Connecticut is beating teams from 30 points and upwards,is that it is not being done only by the starters and one or two bench players.Everyone is or is trying to contribute. When was the last time Tierney got in 10 minutes in a game, even 5 minutes or so?Coutney, who is starting to get comfortable, comes out like a three point sniper, last game,at the back end of the bench. When have we seen that lately?Saniya playing with purpose? We are seeing that, and it may becoming a habit.
Yes,the AAC isn't the greatest of quality teams, but in my opinion,it has helped hone the confidence and skills of those on the bench, that may have not advanced as far as they have.
It sure is exciting to be fan,and this has been the best 30 years of any sport I have ever followed!

There were a few more quality games last year. Our OOC this year was not as challenging, even counting the Stanford game, and Louisville/Rutgers were still in the league.
We are putting up great numbers - better than last years but against a weaker schedule.

Stats seem remarkably similar. The only glaring difference is the decline in FT% this year. Everything else both ways seem pretty consistent.

That was made possible by terrible reffing. We committed a slew of fouls that weren't called. Having good intentions but still bumping into people doesn't make it less of a foul.

In general WCBB was stronger last year. (take a look at the Senior class this year vs last year)

But still you can only beat the teams you play. And a NC is a NC.

One point about last season. Tuck and KML were sitting out with injuries when we beat many of those ranked teams. This season we don't have Stef and Bria. Granted many teams lost key player but we kept our nucleus. Genos spacing of players when recruiting has been key to maintaining our nucleus allowing incoming players to work their way into the lineup while keeping our team chemistry.

Tony,
One stat has me SMH over and over about this team. This team is 1 Chong make away from having 5 starters + 3 rotation =8 players all with over 100 FG attemps- remarkable in itself but all 8 are shooting well over 50%. That's like video game numbers of an alltime fantasy team-Unreal!
