The NY Post has one of the best group of sports' writers in the country. However, they apparently also have their share of Syracuse connected writers. Take for example a full page puff piece in today's paper written by two such writers. It talks about the reincarnation of Syracuse hoops under a new coach. My first thought was Syracuse hasn't been relevant in the BB scene for about 20 years. When they were last relevant in 2003, they won their one and only Natty in history. Since then, we've won four!
Syracuse football, while currently better than our dumpster fire, has also been a chronic non-performer in the ACC. Syracuse has been safely ensconced in a P-5(4) conference for 12 years and has nothing to show for it except their rich payouts from the ACC. (I am sure FSU boils at that thought...) In other words, they bring nothing to the table.
A "mirage" is an image that appears to be something and turns out to be nothing. The Syracuse mirage was created by the continuous suggestion by their media based alumni that it really is a valuable conference member, when in fact it isn't...
