Benefit of playing in a beautiful NFL stadium in a major stadium (for Temple)

More likely the fact they agreed to a 2 for 1, than the stadium.

This. And, honestly, I'm OK with 2 for 1s with programs like Oklahoma given our current state, so long as we get a sizeable check for each of the 2 . . .

Not just 2 for 1s, but the 1s being in places that have more recruiting benefit than Hartford.

The recruiting angle is way overblown. It's not like recruits don't know who Oklahoma is, or anyone locally is paying attention when they play a local school that nobody cares about.

We could get a similar deal, if we wanted it . . .

You mean "I suppose we could get a similar deal ...?" Or you've spoken to the Oklahoma AD about it?

You should know that similar does not mean identical -- but yes, we could get a 2 for one with a top tier power 5 school if we were interested in pursuing one.

Any reason why we wouldn't? Pride thing of a 2 for 1? We should be over that by now

I'll be shocked if Oklahoma plays in Yulman. This has Superdome written all over it.

Not necessarily -- they won't have to worry about having enough seats for OK fans seeing as nobody goes to Tulane games, and this is not a made for TV event.

Tulane is also getting $1.7 Million for their first visit to Norman.

I think it is partially a pride thing. For UConn to do a 2 for 1 it would have to be with a very prestigious school (I'm thinking top 10/15ish programs). With our AAC track record (H/H with Indiana, Illinois, Mizzou, BC, NC St.) there is no reason to do a 2-1 unless the likes of Texas, ND, Oregon, ect. want to come to the Rent. I would rather play Buffalo than entertain the thought of a 2-1 with the likes of Pitt, Rutgers or any other low end P5 program.

I'd sticky with home and homes with uva, Illinois, etc. I'd be worried about setting the 2 for 1 precedent.

Bingo. If we're already getting home and homes with other good P5 programs there's no reason to start setting a precedent that we'll accept two for ones. What's to say Illinois or UVA doesn't call up and say hey, how do you feel about amending our deal to two for one? Not worth it. If we want to agree to a couple of one-off neutral games in NYC or Boston with a major program, that's another story.

I don't think one endangers the other, so long as you're selective about who you do a 2-1 deal with . . .

I'd consider a 2 for 1 if it gave us an expected high quality opponent in a year that we expect to be a very good team. Which basically would boil down to us being willing to drop an FCS game to play Oklahoma or FSU on the road next year (because we think we're top 25 material) and get the next game at the Rent (with a 3rd game to follow on the road). And I'd hesitate to do even that.

Temple is a different animal, seriously they probably make as much on the one Oklahoma game as they make on four regular home games. I mean they claim they pulled in 25k for us last year... but it sure didn't look like it... and think about it.. that was in a historically good year for Temple. Every sports radio station in Philly was talking Temple last year.. and the only games people went to were Notre Dame and Penn State. Philly doesn't give a rats ass about Temple.

Temple can not sell tickets. They have never been able to sell tickets unless Notre Dame or Penn State is in town. And when they are, the stadium is 75% for ND or PSU.

I will give Temple credit - they are trying anything to become relevant inside their own city. The interest is definitely not in Temple...it is in whoever the opponent is. And bringing in OU will be of interest to CFB fans around PA/NJ for sure.

I hate to say you guys don't know what you are talking about, but yes you don't know what you are talking about...
Oklahoma is not signing this deal to play in an NFL stadium. They have agreed to play in either the Linc or an OCS. It doesn't matter.

Regarding the PSU and ND games. Both had 60-40/ 55-45 Temple fans IMO. That still equals 40K Temple. The Linc is just too big for Temple.

The Temple/UConn game was announced 28K+ and I believe it. Keep in mind that this was a Saturday night game, Thanksgiving weekend, and students were not in class. The modern era of Temple football began in 2006 IMO. That is when Temple Football changed. Let's take a look at attendance year to year minus PSU/ND home games. I see a steady climb for a team that was considered the worst team in all of football for 20+ years...That is hard to overcome and it is still a process.

2006- (1-10) Avg. 15,810
2007- (4-8) Avg. 20,824 not including PSU
2008- (5-7) Avg. 15,582
2009- (9-4) Avg. 17,379
2010- (8-4) Avg. 20,505
2011- (9-4) Avg. 23,060 not including PSU
2012- (4-7) Avg. 26,580
2013- (2-10) Avg. 22,473
2014- (6-6) Avg. 26,580
2015- (10-4) Avg. 31,623 not including ND/PSU

Welcome @templefan1 and I hope you stick around. Always enjoyable to have posters from other conference mates (except that one Houston Cougar guy- screw that guy). I respect Temple and believe they can and will continue to grow in the AAC. The OCS would be absolutely massive for the Temple program IMO, as it will hopefully encourage alumni to re-connect with the school even further and give current students an even easier time to attend games and a real football experience. The UConn/Temple games at a 35k stadium on-campus in Philly could be a really fun game to play back and forth so long as we're both in the American together. I was at the game last year at the Linc and while we stunk it up on the field the fans were actually all gracious and kind to us in the stands. Stick around here as we get closer to football season/into the season and keep providing feedback on your boys. Can't wait to finally scrape out a W when you guys come to East Hartford this year!

Not to be a but that bottom picture shows the bottom deck was half full. There was no one in the rest of the stadium. Not sure what you're trying to prove...

Teams I'd be okay with UConn taking a 2-1 with as an AAC program (as long as the 1 is in EH)

Michigan 925 331 36 .730 1292
Notre Dame 892 313 42 .732 1254
Texas 886 354 33 .709 1273
Nebraska 880 368 40 .699 1288
Ohio State 875 320 53 .722 1248
Alabama 864 326 43 .718 1233
Oklahoma 861 319 53 .720 1233
Penn State 856 382 41 .685 1279
Tennessee 820 371 53 .680 1244
USC 813 333 54 .700 1200
Georgia 787 413 54 .649 1254
LSU 770 404 47 .650 1221
Auburn 741 427 47 .629 1215
Texas A&M 717 466 48 .602 1231
Clemson 703 456 45 .603 1204
Florida 701 404 40 .630 1145

And yes- I know that we signed H/H series with Michigan and Tennessee. We also did that as members of the Big East. Hence my note of "as an AAC Program" at the top.

My list would be similar. Take out Tennessee and add Oregon and Florida St and I think we'd have a winner.

Not sure where you are getting that? It may be from the angle of the angle of the picture. Those sections that you see are at the in the corner of the end zone where the ramps are. That ramp is right at the back end zone marker. So what I am saying is the majority of the lower bowl was filled and there were people in the club seats (can't post pic but you can find the image 3rd row down, middle showing fans in club seats Temple Owls Photo Galleries)

I was just responding to IMind who said he didn't think there were close to 25K there. I definitely think the announced was correct. I've seen games when there for 5k in the stands. Trust me. If the game was during school, probably another 5K in students too.

Temple stills has a long way to go with having a fan base for football, but it is slowly growing. This year will be very telling regarding attendance for Temple.

Regarding scheduling. Temple signed 2-2s with UMD and Rutgers that are coming up. When an Oklahoma type program wants to schedule you, you do a 2-1 if you are Temple. I consider them on par with ND, FSU, Oregon, USC, Texas. Granted when the series starts in 8 years the CF world will be a much different place.

Hearing rumors of another B10 team that Temple will be scheduling (not PSU).

Good luck to UConn this year. I've been to UConn the past 3 times Temple has played up there. Plan on continuing that tradition this year. Only had one fan be an in three trips. Everyone else was very hospitable.

Us northern teams have to stick together!

Well done by Temple. This is something I would not mind us doing. Home and homes with ACC and B1G bottom feeders are nice but I'd take this deal with OU caliber team in a heartbeat.
