I'm a Pepperdine grad and fan of the basketball program. Olden was player of the year in Oklahoma but went under the radar recruiting-wise, which is how Pepperdine could land someone like him. Like many freshmen he had moments of being raw, but unquestionably he showed enough to be considered the future of the program and many were hoping for big things before his injury. The injury, combined with Pepperdine pulling the scholly for one of his best friends (and some tweeting about "loyalty") were the most we could come up with as to why he left. It's not altogether uncommon for really good players transferring out of Pepperdine for greener pastures (though it only rarely seems to work out), but following his ankle injury the timing came as a surprise when his stock could be higher and he went JUCO. Lots of Pepperdine fans were really hit hard by that news as, after so may fallow years, Olden was seen as a key in sustaining recent modest WCC success in future years.
If he joins the Huskies, I hope for the best for him. He won't be a program changer for UConn but he will certainly hold his own and could provide some good minutes. I haven't kept track of him in JUCO and not sure if he is 100% healthy, but if UConn likes what it sees he would certainly earn his scholarship given the chance.
