They have to be seeded ninth instead of tenth to play in Albany and avoid SC. Some Conference tourney upsets will be needed. It also seems totally foolish for the committee not to put them in Albany.

If it's any consolation, Charlie Creme has you placed in Albany in his latest update today. As a 3 seed.

No, actually, being #9 would in theory increase our likelihood of being placed with SC because that's what a true S-curve would dictate.

The bigger determining factor is that the top 4 teams from any conference must go into separate regions if they're seeded 4 or higher. So Oregon State had to go where the other 3 Pac-12 teams weren't, and NC State can't be with Virginia Tech, and LSU can't be with SC ... all of these constraints leave the committee with not too many options for where to put UConn.

Nine in theory plays eight, with the winner playing SC. However, the second reveal didn’t follow that protocol, most likely because of the conference issues.

I think the concern for being in the same bracket as SC is overblown. Of course nobody wants to face them, but the more likely difference makers are getting the first two games at home, which has almost been locked up short of an upset in the BE tournament, and getting in the Albany region because of a semi home-court advantage with our fans packing the arena.

That is even more of a difference when the alternative is on the west coast, being just as difficult for our fans as Albany is convenient. Several streaks have disappeared over the last few injury plagued years, but the sweet sixteen streak is still there. The ultimate seeding, be it 2, 3, or 4 affects the odds of securing another sweet sixteen and advancing to the Elite 8.

The seeds and region can improve our chances of getting to the Elite 8. After that it is likely we would be an underdog at each additional step. If we wind up in SC's bracket as a 2 or 3 seed in Albany, I would be happy with that. In that scenario you could get to the Elite 8 without facing SC, and would only potentially face them going for the Final 4. If we slip to a 4 seed in their region we might have to beat them just to get to the Elite 8.

That Bracket would be a horrible one for UConn. If they stay 10 they should end up with Ohio State if they win out and that would be good for UConn. Stanford, USC and UCLA won't all win so that could be a problem too. I don't see any way UConn loses in the Big East and with a couple upsets they could end up a 6 or 7 overall seed which would be great. If they move up to 9 or 8 that brings South Carolina into play in the first game of the second weekend and that could be problematic. Out west is better than Albany in some ways.
