I thought it would be good to honor some of our former posters who passed in what could be deemed as "in the line of duty". "In the line of duty" is defined as a boneyarder who passed while an active poster of the boneyard.

To start:

1. Kibitzer
2. Slewbobber

'Olde' Coach is correct...Warren Witherell.

BTW: I take some [undue] pride in his nickname. Warren signed as Old Coach for quite a while.
His posts were normally quite elegant...with some obvious thought going into each one.
At some point I was responding to one of his posts and made a typo...adding an 'e' to 'Old'.
I looked at it...decided that the new word fit Warren and left it. Off board I asked him if the change was OK with him...and he said OK and began to use it himself.

Only other people are stoopid.
In my lurker days I always enjoyed the posts of Ozzie Nelson. The post I quoted was his next to last in September 2017. He passed away shortly after that. He was a longtime professor at Quinnipiac.

Didn't he used to be "O'southbranch"? Or was that on a different board? Or am I having a brain aneurysm?
Yeah, he fooled around with that variation. Don't recall if it got started in connection with St. Patty's Day or what.

Speaking of which, Wonkster (in his guise as "Father O'Malley") and I wrote a series of Irish toasts for one such occasion. Paraphrases of actual Irish blessings/toasts, but skewering people. Ms. McGraw stands out as a prominent target.

RobtNAtl. (It wasn't Robert National, BTW; it parsed as Robert N., Atlanta.)

He doesn't belong on Charlie's list, because he wasn't a UConn fan and he only posted here once -- having been mentioned so many times that he decided to come here and offer us greetings.

He did pass in the line of duty, but it was duty on the old Summitt (before it became a pay site) during the heyday of the UConn-Tennessee rivalry.

He had a sense of humor and, unlike some in that crowd, failed to qualify as mean-spirited. During a UConn win, he once posted in reference to Diana: "That ball hog chick is killing us!"

Thus was born a nickname some of us embraced as a license to pen doggerel.

I really appreciate this listing. I remember all except one of the posters listed as being on the BY; I honestly only knew with certainty of the passing of 5 of them.

I think we all hope to still be participating in life when our time comes. A friend just posted on Facebook a happy 96th birthday to her father. He attended a reunion of his WWII outfit just a few months ago, so "still going strong".
