RIP to Nonna. Coming from an Italian heritage, I know how hard it is to lose a mother. Geno is really feeling it.

The way I remember the Svetlana story is that Geno was grousing to his mom about "damn foreigners" ( specifically meaning Sveta), and his mom reminded him that "Geno, you are a damn foreigner!"

From Mike's column:
"One of the great highlights of my life came at my own wedding. Geno and Kathy were kind enough to come to the reception. My grandmother saw him and shrieked in broken English, “It’s a Geno! It’s a Geno!” I still have a picture of them from that day."

Mike DiMauro column on the death of Geno's mother.

What a wonderful piece by DiMauro. Good writing that‘ll be hard to forget. Kudos, sir.

Mike DiMauro column on the death of Geno's mother.

With Marsiella Auriemma’s passing, someone else will need to bring the holy water to this year’s championship game to douse Geno as he walks into the arena…;)
