Rumor has it the NBA is considering a play-in tournament for the final two playoff seeds in each "conference."
7 seed would play the 8 seed with the 7 seed on the line. 9 seed would play the 10 seed, with the winner playing the loser of the 7/8 game for the 8 seed.
I like the innovation, but I'd rather see a post-season tournament between non-playoff qualifiers to establish draft order. Win the tournament get the one seed, lose the consolation of the consolation games and you're picking in the teens. Beats the lottery, helps teams eternally stuck in the middle, curtails tanking.
