I know this is the women's forum, but I know you guys have played WBB games at MSA. Our men's team plays St. John's there on 12/22. Is the arena/casino/vicinity worth a long road trip in December? It's quite subjective, of course, but if you tell me the arena and casino are a waste of time, I'll find a different basketball road trip this year. Thanks.

if you enjoy the casino life it would be fantastic, may even catch a show there if you're there for a few night or you can always drive over to Foxwoods (same situation 5 minutes away). nothing at all to do "outside of the building" but there's no need to go outside everything is inside.

Book a room now if you're going (but I think you cant book no further than 3 months away)...

its a wonderful play to visit at least once in your lifetime...

Arena doesn't have anything to do with gambling (own entrance if your that touchy about it)

No, I'm not touchy about it at all, but wouldn't spend a whole day in the casino. New London might be a good side trip.

You might want to consider booking off-casino. It's wicked expensive.

But we stayed up there years ago when it was fairly new - there was a short lived women's pro league that had a team there. We thought the Sun was very nice, and I'm sure it has been improved since. Nice restaurants then, but no food court as I read about on the BY nowadays. My wife and I don't gamble, but it doesn't bother us, we just don't, not that we are opposed to it, so really enjoyed. Never been to Foxwoods.

My sister and her SO stayed at the hotel. They thought it was very nice, great service, and reasonably priced. The Sun has several entertainment venues. There is a shopping area - mostly touristy stuff and plenty of restaurants! (Including a Pepe's Pizza!) Foxwoods also has concerts, etc and a new shopping area I haven't been too yet.
Not much in New London to see. There is the Submarine museum in Groton. And of course Mystic Seaport and Aquarium. The shopping village there is done up like an old New England Christmas town in December. Just be sure to dress warm.

If you want to try something a little different book the lantern light tour at Mystic Seaport. It's pretty close, different, Christmasy and very New England. Last one looks like it is on the 20th - linky

Here's a link to the Connecticut tourism website. Link

Mystic has some great restaurants if you are in the area. The Oyster Club, Daniel Packer Inne, Go Fish, Steak Loft, and, of course, Mystic Pizza. :)

Follow up: I just ordered my tickets, so I'll be visiting your beautiful state in December. I think I'm going to stay in New London. Thanks for everyone's input.
