Judd Hirsch and Christine Lahti are radicals who blew up a research lab in the 1960s and have been on the run ever since, one step ahead of the FBI. They now have two sons, and the older one (played by River Phoenix, if I recall correctly) is now in his late teens and is sick of running from the law. The question: will his parents allow him to go off on his own and lead a normal life. It was directed by the great Sidney Lumet.
