In his early life (before becoming a very popular actor), he served in Korea with the Fifth Regimental Combat Team and was twice awarded the Purple Heart Medal, once for getting dinged by enemy shrapnel and once for getting wounded in the butt from friendly fire.

James Garner was one of my favorite actors. May he rest in peace!

Maverick and The Rockford Files were two staples of my tv watching as a child/teen.

Another one of the movie and tv stars from my youth passes on. Feeling my mortality more and more every day.

RIP.
Loved those shows. RIP

Hendley The Scrounger in The Great Escape.

Also, himself in the Polaroid commercials with what's her name, oh yeah, Mariette Hartley [no relation to Bria]

One of my all time favorite movies. I can watch this movie over and over.

A real class actor. He epitomized the best of his era. The Rockford Files episodes are still running on Netflix.

One of the very few actors I paid attention to. If Garner was in a movie or TV show, chances are it'd be good. Jim Rockford was the kind of character that you just loved to watch. His style became a template for a lot of other detective shows in the decade after it aired. And who can forget Maverick?

I always thought Oceans 11 ( & -12 & -13) was a total ripoff of those Rockford Files episodes where he would recruit a bunch of his old peeps and run a 'game.'

Except Ocean's 11 was a remake of the 1960 movie (with Sinatra, Martin, Davis Jr). 14 years before Rockford Files.

More likely Rockford Files "ripped off" the original Ocean's 11.

No one has yet to mention Support Your Local Sheriff. Of course, you may have been on your way to Australia.:)
