. . . and indicate that Bobby Valentine stays as skipper in 2013.

The Sox went to California where, to steal a line from Red Smith, they lost three games to the Angels by getting overwhelmed, underwhelmed, then whelmed. On to Oakland, where they scored only a safety while conceding three TD's (their defense on point-after-TD kicks worked 33% of the time). Final: A's 20, Sox 2.

The Bostons gave no indication of being competitive but instead demonstrated that rituals normally enacted in March have begun already, about six months ahead of all other teams.

Valentine is no longer performing the charade of managing to win games and earn wild cards, he is conducting tryouts and auditions to determine who will take the field at Fenway in April, 2013.

Bobby (does it seem kinda weird to call a 65 year old guy "Bobby"?) has a center fielder (Ellsbury), a second baseman (Pedroia), and a starting pitcher (I count only Buchholz for now). Maybe a third baseman (Middlebrooks).

He seems to have no idea who will play shortstop or left field. Neither do the rest of us.

A very few things are certain. Bard won't start. Aceves won't close. Iglesias can't hit. Neither Cook nor Stewart can get guys out.

And some things are very uncertain. Ortiz. Ciriaco. Doubront. Lester. And the ultimate enigma, Matzusaka.

Spring training is well underway for the Sox. Only about 240 days until Opening Day. Endure it if you can.

Ah, but will Ellsbury and Pedroia be with the Red Sox next season? It could have been argued that they should have done this during spring training this year. There is certainty that they have cleared a lot of salary.

I simply can’t watch this Boston team any more. I’d rather watch this agglomeration from my youth, with Mike Higgins at the helm. Surely all old Sox fans could come up with a similar uninspiring crew to cheer us up in this, our time of need?

Pete Daley C
Norm Zauchin 1B
Billy Consolo 2B
Ted Lepcio 3B
Don Buddin SS
Faye Throneberry LF
Marty Keough CF
Lou Clinton RF

Ike Delock RHP
Leo Kiley LHP
George Susce JFF

The team has quit. Bobby V is a dead man walking. He's out, only question is when.

Disgusting.

An absolutely amazing degeneration of a once proud team - amazing what has happened in 365 days to this team. Don't think we have ever seen quite this kind thing in any sport.

There are a lot of people who predicted this when Valentine was announced as the new skipper. The guy is a horrible manager of personnel. Always has been.
