OT: Hard Rock Hartford

I am not sure this hotel is really needed. According to a September-2015 Hartford Courant article:

Occupancy in downtown Hartford hotels has shown some improvement this year. Through the first seven months of 2015, occupancy was 59 percent, compared with 56.5 percent for the same period last year, according to STR, which tracks hotel trends.

Those levels are still below the 70 percent that is considered healthy for the Hartford market.

Occupancy rates for the current inventory is already unhealthy. What happens when more rooms are added with a new hotel? It is my feeling this hotel will just pull patrons from the other hotels downtown. This will create financial issues for the other hotels.

The Hard Rock isn't like the other hotels in town. It's a destination on its own.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The state keeps toying with the idea of a casino in the area. The slot box in East Hartford looks like the front runner but Hard Rock has a great record with casinos. The ballpark developer says a casino hasn't been discussed. Why not? Putting a casiono in the Hard Rock hotel is the only scenario that makes minimal sense.

Providence is light years ahead of Hartford. They were similar 30 years ago. Not today.

And New Haven is better than both . . . .

It happens in every city their have a place. People make special trips and the hotels do a very good job with events. They will bring in rock memorabilia from all over the world. They will have acts in the lobby, there will be a spa and their rooftop will be happening place. This ain't the Hilton. I've stayed at a couple on business trips and they are very lively places. They actually promote the places.

Anyway, this was taken today. I think April will be a bad month for the naysayers.

I haven't been to one for a while. I was in the Biloxi hotel and watched the UConn/USF snow game that we won on a last second FG. That place was hopping.

No casino planned from hard rock
In order for CT to keep getting 25% of slot revenue, another casino must be on tribal land or ran by the existing tribes. So with the deal that they have, the 3rd casino must be run by a tribe beginning with the letter "M".

I think the tribes should partner up and re-do the HCC and build the casino in the old mall / convention area in the basement of XL. This way it will
Make $ and they can attract the acts to fill the place, compete with Springfield, and hopefully attract an NHL team back to Hartford.
