The Dominant 20: The teams that made the biggest impact

"Playing the women's game doesn't make things easier in our methodology; on the contrary, comparing dominant teams to champions from their own sports punishes UConn by measuring the Huskies against other incarnations of their perpetually great program (such as their 2002 team, which went 39-0 but couldn't make this list)."

Excellent read, great composite list. Interesting how the "scoring" system works.

Most notable: UCONN makes the list twice! I'm sure an argument can be had to include another one of those 11 championships...maybe two :p

This is all of sports, folks. Globally!

Go HUSKIES!

The interesting thing and what is clearly identified in the first listing for Uconn, is that if they didn't have so many really dominant years these teams would rank much higher - the fact that they have those 1o championships within the universe under discussion limits each teams 'deviation' from the norm that is the major qualification for inclusion in the list.

They also had a top 20 invidual players list. Out of all the players they could’ve chosen, they picked Lauren Jackson. Not to take anything away from Lauren, she is one of the greats. However, there is the GREATEST women’s basketball player of all time, Diana Taurasi, there’s Leslie, Swoopes, Cooper, Moore, Catchings, etc. I wouldn’t say she was the most dominant in the last 20 years. Anyone agree or disagree?

This is such an important point. We all know a kid that screwed up "the curve" by acing the test (heck, I daresay more than a few of them post here). UConn's problem with the methodology is they are the kid with so many whip-smart siblings in the class they completely moved the curve and they no longer stand out so much. The only program in any sport anywhere in the world with two entries on the list. That says a lot.

UConn earned its first national title in 1995, but this was the season the Huskies began a dynastic run that hasn't ended. (About the 2000 team, #20 on the list)
