We went to the line ONCE... Bouk fouled on a 3 pointer. That’s it. 40 minutes.
Weirdly don’t really feel like they missed many. Wright always gets a good whistle though. The game last year turned when he got a T and Nova get every call in most of the second half.

Nova fouls at one of the lowest rates in D1. They don't teach over-aggressive contests and they recruit smart players. They've been top 55 for the last 6 years.

I don't disagree. Polley, not a Hurley recruit, is a shooter. Vital kind of has the right mechanics. Hurley's recruits all seem to fit the athlete mold. A few marksmen would make a better rounded team.
MUCH needed. When was the last time we saw a Rashad Anderson type? Scottie Haralson? and ended up leaving before graduation. Even then, I can't remember a spot up shooter.

Long scoring droughts, huge turnovers, anemic from behind the arc. That isn't just today. It happens with alarming frequency.

Even if you don't have a three point specialist ala Rashad you can't have a roster full of guards who are so inept at three point shooting in this day and age.

CV is a good enuf 3 pt shooter in a catch and shoot situation. Same with Akok. But we have no one who has shown that they can make a 3 off the bounce or off a curl. Bouknight may be able to, but hasn’t shown it yet.

For comparison sake:

Niels Giffey College Stats

Rashad Anderson College Stats

Read into it what you want. Niels was effective from 3, but wasn't the same scorer overall.

So what leads you to believe he may be able to?

Scottie Haralson? That's who bring up as a spot up shooter? I hope Hurley doesn't recruit any Scottie Haralsons.
He came in as a shooter and only lasted one year. You seem like a very negative human being.

We need ballers like Robert Swain back on the roster.
Funny enough that the Robert Swains and Darius Trices of the world are comparable to guys we have playing major minutes now

This is one of those games where going into it, if you said “Villanova is only going to score 61 points”, you sign up for that 100% of the time.

Not negative. Just a little frustrated from these close losses.

Haralson took about 10 shots in his UConn career. Why? Because he wasn't very good.

Some of your takes are out there. Just calling you out on them.

He did just fine at Tulsa. Better than Giffey ever did here. Just look at the statistics. He came in as a shooter, just didn't get a chance and transferred after freshman year.

Unfortunately, Jackson, Springs and Brown-Ferguson are not shooters, but RJ Cole will fill a big need of a guard who can hit threes (2.5 makes a game last year at a 38.7% clip) and create his own offense (7.5 free throw attempts a game last year).

Seth Towns is a 42% career three point shooter, just sayin'.

We shot 63.8% from inside the arc and Villanova shot 30.7
The boys had pretty good interior defense. But they played us inside-out and had too many open looks for 3. But the ability to defend the whole half court will come.

A stat that amazed me was one rattled off by the announcers yesterday saying we shoot 34% as a team which isn't dreadful. But dreadful was yesterday unfortunately.

The boxscore is just a "wow" to me as I knew they played well enough to win but even more so they dominated a pretty good team in some areas. I hate to say we are "Virginia" in a way because we can defend well enough to be in most any game but can't score enough points to win enough games.

Why can't our coaches see admit that we are not a 3 point shooting team? One shooting foul all game is not on the refs but our staff's inability to adjust to our lack of perimeter shooting.

Frustrating that we are allowed to shoot so many 3s when we aren't making them. This game did not require 3 point shots, it was so close.

Its like continually playing bad hands in poker and not folding them for a better hand.

Outside of Polley no one is a good 3 point shooter on our team. Adjust dammit!

What is he supposed to do, tell our team to stop shooting 3s altogether? And what do we do when the other team adjusts and packs in their defense and there's no room to operate down low? You can't just stop shooting.

No matter how bad a shooting team we are, we're not 13% bad. There aren't going to be many games where the other team shoots 35% higher than we do from 3. Even if the difference was 20% we win comfortably.

We loose these games at crunch time because our senior guards throw the ball around recklessly and we don't have a "go to" scorer who can get a bucket at the end of a game. I was hoping Bouknight was gonna be that guy, but he's a little lost right now, and we don't have any one else to fill that spot. I believe in Bouk, but he's not there yet, and until he is, and until our seniors learn to value the ball, we are going to continue to have games like this, which is a shame because they all played their hearts out. It was a tough loss only because of how much they fought to win.

It’s bad enough that we don’t have any great 3 point shooters but we have guys who could knock some down if they were in a better position to shoot. Look at some of the crisp passing when Villanova had the ball and the squared up open 3s they took.

That's the biggest thing and I don't know why fans can't see it. Nova's ball movement is so much better than ours. They always whip it around and will even pass down open shots to get more open shots. When you are always catching it in rythm wide open and squaring up, shooting becomes a whole lot easier.
