Hot off the presses, Kash jumped 43.5" vertical and had a 10.6 ft broad jump. Last years winner in vert was John Baldwin wth 42".

That's pretty explosive. Good for Kash!! Putting up very impressive numbers so far, can't wait until he opens some eyes with his 40!

Uconndad -

Question for you if you don't mind. It seems that UCONN has done a wonderful job of recruiting stellar athletes, even if many are unheralded as big time recruits. A couple of combines ago Reggie McClain put up some terrific numbers. Now your son goes in and at 180 LBs puts up 19 reps.

Is this because the prior coaching staff focused on recruiting athleticism or is it more because of a very good training and conditioning program at UCONN? Do you see the current coaching staff focused in the same manner?

Thanks in advance and I certainly understand if you feel you shouldn't comment.

Best of luck to Kash and I hope we have made life long Huskies out of both of you.

Dogs,
To answer your question, IMO it's a combination of the two. Our coaches recruit athletic and good character kids. They look for kids that are dual sport athletes with the potential, based on body composition and potential for growth, and they attempt to forecast what they can do and where they can play after a yr or 2 in our strength and conditioning program. This formula has proven extremely successful, with a few misses along the way, which is standard for every team. It appears that Coach P may have better success recruiting the more athletic players which should translate to greater success on the field eventually. The S & C program will continue to be one of the best in the country. Thank god our previous coach was not able to take our complete world class S & C progam with him.

According to the link provided above, Kashif posted a 4.41 40. I don't know if that's after 1 attempt, or the best of his 2 attempts. I'm not sure what his goal was, but that is a very good time.

Excellent time, no question, regardless of whether that was his goal or not. Coupled with his other results at the combine today, Kash helped himself alot. And I am sure he will come across very well in the interviews.

At the very least, he will get an invite to camp.

It puts him in the top 1/3 of 40 times for those that ran, great job.

The scouts get another look at him at UConn's pro-day in a month or so. Does anyone know the date for Pro Day (or whatever it's called)?

Wow!! Are you watching it, or tracking it on a site?

Watching it. Didn't see him run, but Dez reported it on twitter and a bunch of the guys on Kash's team tweeted it as well. His name is also on the ranking tied for 5th for WR 40 times at the 2012 combine on NFL Network.

It's updated on the linked site now too. 4.35! 5th fasted for WR's so far, and there are 11 WR's total who have posted times in the 4.3 range, and a bunch more in the 4.40 - 4.43 range so far. They are flying out there.

If I'm doing the search correctly on nfl.com that vertical jump would tie for 3rd across all positions since the 2006 combine.

Side note Darius Butler is tied for 5th during that time period with a 43" vertical.

Hard to be disappointed with Kashif's performance at the combine. It looks like he came prepared and did everything in his power to get some recognition. Congrats.

Thanks. He didn't tell me until a few minutes ago that he tweaked his quad while training in Fla, but today was a once in a lifetime opportunity so he had to push through it. He's a tough kid. I'm proud of him. His vertical (43.5) is the best in the last 9 years according to combine records. Kendall is up next. Let's go!

They called me crazy when I saw messages in the Froot Loops. Thank you for confirming my abilities with this visual test, Dan.

Impressive numbers from Kashif. The vertical jump is the most impressive thing considering his height.

Kendall put up 36 reps on the bench press.

Wow that's an awesome number. Good for him! His athleticism is top notch for a guy his size. Should put up a good 40 time and cone drills.

What an awesome day for Kahif! Top ten in all 6 events he participated in and top 5 in 4 out of six in a field of 47 wide outs. Made some nice catches in drills as well. So proud of him.

The only thing that bothers me is when Qb's are throwing it seems like the throw to the guys with #s 1-20. Kashif I believe is #32 put him out there and give him a shot! He as good as most of the guys out there WTF!

Some guy named Poe from Memphis did 44 reps. Reyes tied for second at 36

By the way...Poe is 6'4" 346 lbs. Are you kidding me? Big and strong. Kinda think he gets drafted.

He's very raw too. A physical specimen that doesn't come around often. Wait until he runs the 40 tomorrow. For a guy his size he is unbelievably athletic. He weighs 350, but he is solid. Not a fat blubbery guy, solid muscle. Here is a video clip of him.
