Nice update from New Haven Register's Chip Malafronte on Mike Olt in today's paper:
"Mike Olt is making up for lost time nicely in the Arizona Fall League. The Branford resident, a jewel in the Texas Rangers organization, missed half of the minor league baseball season with a broken collarbone. But he is tearing up the prestigious league, an offseason home for the game’s best prospects.
Olt, a first-round draft pick out of UConn in 2010, is hitting .346 and leads the league with eight home runs and 30 RBIs — comfortably ahead of Bryce Harper, widely considered the top position prospect in baseball, in nearly every offensive category.
Lest we get too far ahead of ourselves, Olt, 23, has yet to play a game above Class A. Still, his defensive prowess at third base combined with his power potential will soon force the two-time defending AL champion Rangers to make a decision. The team signed Adrian Beltre, 32, to a five-year, $80 million contract in January.
Olt’s major league future may well be with another organization."
